Βασισμένη μονάχα σε ένα κεφάλαιο, στο «Ημερολόγιο του Καπετάνιου» από το κλασικό μυθιστόρημα του Μπραμ Στόκερ, «Δράκουλα», η ιστορία τοποθετείται στη ρωσική σκούνα, Ντιμίτερ, που ναυλώθηκε για να μεταφέρει ιδιωτικό φορτίο – είκοσι τέσσερα ασημάδευτα κιβώτια – από τα Καρπάθια όρη στο Λονδίνο.
Η ταινία αφηγείται τα περίεργα γεγονότα που έπληξαν το καταραμένο πλήρωμα όσο προσπαθούσαν να επιβιώσουν στο ωκεάνιο ταξίδι τους, κυνηγημένοι κάθε νύχτα από μια τρομακτική παρουσία. Όταν το πλοίο έφτασε τελικά στον προορισμό του ήταν ρημαγμένο χωρίς ίχνος του πληρώματος.
