In the original anime, the setting was done during Christmas. Looks like the reboot is REALLY following the manga closely.

I've said it before, but I'll say it again:

Compared to the manga and original anime, this moment is given greater weight:

Lum's looking at the couple ahead of them holding hands, and you see her wondering if her bond with her Darling is all in her head. Meanwhile, though he's trying to shut it out, he can't deny he owes Lum, this time. He looks over, probably to grudgingly admit as much...

And then he sees Lum properly, for the first time since she invaded his life.

For once, she isn't zapping him or getting (according to him) pushy. He's able to realize that Lum really IS beautiful. When she starts to take off, his expression suggests he realizes, deep down, that it's now or never.

Then Ataru reaches out, and takes Lum's hand. Hesitantly, he suggests that they keep walking together for a bit. Lum's smile is subtle, but you see that she gets the change in her Darling's attitude. His own blush suggests that he's still grappling with this new development.

And just like that, the whole dynamic of the series changes.

its crazy how lum was a side character in the original but became a main character due to being a favourite character in the manga

The worst part about this anime how not enough people are watching it. I wish the piano rendition of the op would get released somewhere. It's such a sweet and somber track. Generally, this anime has some of the best and memorable ost's of recent times. I mean, why am I surprised, it happened to the original as well. To this day "Lum's love song", the opening of the original anime, is a Karaoke classic in japan. You could go up to most any Japanese person and they would know the song.

Lum-chan was top 1000% waifu back in 80s and as i am in almost 40s she's always the number one.... I like Lum-chan, her character, voice acting and image of alien female was drawn and interpreted as a amazing girl....

in the final episode he didn't want to say "i love you" without it truly coming from the heart and which is why he went through the whole pain of the tag game.
