Calm - Ease | Guided Meditation by Thich Nhat Hanh

**"Breathing in, I know I am breathing in.**
**Breathing out, I know I am breathing out.**
**In,**
**Out.**

After saying these sentences we can abbreviate them by saying "In" as we breathe in and "Out" as we breathe out. We don't try to control our breathing. Whether our in-breath is long or short, deep or shallow, we just breathe naturally and shine the light of mindfulness on it. When we do this we notice that, in fact, our breathing does become slower and deeper
naturally.

**Breathing in, my in-breath has become deep.**
**Breathing out, my outbreath has become slow. **
**Deep,**
**Slow.**

We don't have to make an extra effort. It just becomes deeper and slower by itself, and we recognize that. Later on, you will notice that you have become calmer and more at ease.

**Breathing in, I calm my body and my mind. **
**Breathing out, I ease everything.**
**Calm,**
**Ease.**

I am not struggling anymore.

"Breathing in, I smile. Breathing out, I release all my worries and anxieties. Smile/release." We are able to smile to ourselves and release all our worries. There are more than three hundred muscles in our face, and when we know how to breathe in and smile, these muscles can relax. This is "mouth yoga." We smile and are able to release all our feelings and emotions.

**Breathing in, I establish myself in the present moment.**
**Breathing out, I know this is a wonderful moment.**
**Present moment,**
**wonderful moment.**

Nothing is more precious than being in the present moment fully alive and aware.

**In, out**
**Deep, slow**
**Calm, ease**
**Smile, release**
**Present moment, wonderful moment.**

If you use this poem during sitting or walking meditation, it can be very nourishing and healing. Practice each line for as long as you wish.

I practiced meditation from time to time, but it is always difficult for me to practice more than 3 minutes. Thay's guidance make meditation simple and enjoyable.

"Breathing in I smile, nothing is as important as my peace, my joy.
I smile to everything.
Even to my suffering, to my difficulties.
Breathing out, I release and let go.
This is a practice of freedom.
Smile, release."

Thich Nhat Hanh has passed to the other side. May he have a smooth passage. For me Thai was and is the most extraordinary person and teacher. His gentle soul and his humor, his wisdom, his vast knowledge and interests, his. poetic creative writing, his love and celebration of life, his devotion to humanity and nature, his deep political conviction and engagement grounded in his biography and ever present - all of this made him for me the most diverse teacher and human being. Thank you for what you gave us and are still giving to us. Dagmar🙏🏼 Namaste

I've been practicing meditation for several years now. When he said "breathing in I smile, " my eyes swelled with tears. For all of you starting a meditation practice, stay with it. It is not always easy but it is a practice that can change you and your life dramatically.

I smile. Nothing is as important as my peace.

I smile to my obesity
I smile to my alcohol
I smile to my youth
I smile to my mothers passing

I smile as this is my suffering. I smile to it. This is the practice of freedom.

I am finally free.

For years I told myself that I could never meditate because I have such an over active mind. I have Aspergers. Most of the time it feels like I have two inner monologues thinking of two separate things at the same time, always one being the louder primary thought and another become a quieter secondary thought. Shortly before Thay's passing I began to understand mediation and practice it more mindfully, but just barely. Within 24 hours of Thay's passing almost everything "clicked" entirely and I don't understand why. I practice mindfulness everyday and as often as I can. At work, on my couch, in the car, drinking tea. In the beginning I could only meditate for no longer than 3 to 5 minutes before getting frustrated and giving up. Now I find myself not wanting to leave my meditation and always looking forward to the next time I can sit and enjoy another peaceful moment.

Thank you so much Thay and Plum Village for truly changing my life!

If you are sad, you live in the past
If you are worried, you are dealing with the future
If you are at peace, you are living in the present
Be at the moment, be at peace

Rest in Peace my friend. You have given me my proverbial air supply.

I love you as much as a stranger who has benefited from your timeless teaching.

Today I sit and practice in honour of this wonderful man. Today I smile to all that he has done to alleviate my suffering and the suffering of others. I will always carry him with me in my heart ♥

I’ve been using this for several years. It’s wonderful. Until today when a Calm add showed up in the middle. “Breathing in..” a Calm add.

I had a tough and stressful day . I remembered what tich said ". Breathing in I smile . Nothing is as important as my peace, my joy . I smile though everything . Even through my suffering my difficulties . On my way home. I started to laugh . And felt much more peaceful . I could see how some people are quite funny . Like they are in the throes of a tantrum. If they don't get thier way .

it´s amazing: saying "present moment, wonderful moment" to my headache and tinnitus and meaning every word of it, brought tears to my eyes and then the headache got less.
never knew it could be that simple, I´ll do it more often, thank you, thank you thank you..
