SCHUMER: CONGRESS WILL MOVE FORWARD WITH BIDEN’S COVID RELIEF BILL: Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) is holding a press briefing alongside Sens. Dick Durbin (D-IL) and Patty Murray (D-WA). Schumer has said that the Democrat-controlled Congress will be moving forward with Pres. Biden’s $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief package rather than wait on any potential negotiations with GOP Senators who met with Biden and VP Harris last night.

Yesterday, Schumer and Speaker Nancy Pelosi filed a joint budget resolution as the first step towards getting Biden’s bill through Congress as quickly as possible without Republican support. The parliamentary maneuver allows the package to pass the Senate with a simple majority vote, rather than having to meet a 60-vote threshold. ‘Congress has a responsibility to quickly deliver immediate comprehensive relief to the American people hurting from COVID-19,’ the two leaders said in a statement. ‘With this budget resolution, the Democratic Congress is paving the way for the landmark Biden-Harris coronavirus package that will crush the virus and deliver real relief to families and communities in need.’
