NHL 2K5 is the BEST hockey game ever. Just the intimidator/intimidated player system was revolutionary and has YET to be brought back to any hockey game. Hit a guy enough and you scare him when ur near him and his stats go down?!?! Priceless

People sleep on NHL 2K8 but it's one of the best hockey games on the PS3/360 generation. The goalie animation is top tier.

Loved Nhl 94 as my introduction but 95 was a total rebuild and my all time fave 2D experience. Nhl 09 was another touchstone for me as I got to play just as the goalie which was awesome. Sad to see the game leave the PC and even tho I kept buying them the feature list dwindled and no goalie mode was ever made for it. Would always see PC's on sale at Radio Shack which was demo' ing the game every year.

I'd say the list is 10/10, but the 2K series continued after 2K5 up til 2K11 (a wii exclusive). Although I wonder if NHL 14 would've deserved an honorable mention?

4:35 I just noticed something. This was the first year they had the skill stick so it wasn't perfected yet, but in my opinion back in 2007, they made the players stances look way more authentic. 4:45 is a real stance players take in shootouts, in nhl 19 players do usually turn their feet inwards like that. 4:55, the good old backhand shot to the short side, that move is too hard to do in nhl 19 and in order to do it you have to use LT which is a cool feature, even though LT is an unrealistic skating style. 4:58 this one is cool though, I wish they designed their new skating physics based off of this idea. The way Torres has his body hunched over and is angling his skates, is how real players look. I find in NHL 19, players don't bend their knees or backs that much, and they just coast with still upperbody motion, and pivoting is very glitchy because you can spam LT and its like your player is being pulled by a magnet.

In my opinion, NHL HITZ 2002, NHL HITZ 2003, NHL HITZ PRO (AKA NHL HITZ 2004), NHL 2004, ESPN NHL 2K5, NHL 06, NHL 07, NHL 08, NHL 09, NHL 10, NHL 2K10, NHL 11, NHL 12, NHL 14, NHL ROCK THE RINK and NHL 2 On 2 Open Ice Challenge are my personal favorite hockey video games to play! Also, I just realized that NHL ROCK THE RINK and the NHL HITZ games are Wayne Gretzky's 3D Hockey/3D Hockey 98' but gotten a huge upgrade with a whole lot of fun, modes, features, better broadcast commentary, replay value (AKA REPLAYABILITY) and for the 5th and 6th generation video game console owners! But I would have to say that NHL 14 or NHL HITZ PRO is the GREATEST HOCKEY VIDEO GAME OF TIME IMO!

NHL 2002 will always be my favorite, the arcadey hits and shots and the card system, music and hilarious commentary have a plac ein my herat still to today. Ive tried to get into NHL games since, but none has captavated me anything close to 2002

NHL 98 holds the crown as far as I'm concerned, Everything got complicated after that. Blades of Steel comes in second, Third place goes to 99 , I think the mid 90's were the high point of sports games especially arcade. NBA Jams NFL Blitz . Great intuitive gameplay, no junk, just good gaming. Seems to me like most new sports games consist of a bunch of menus options and modes, which just end up complicating the game.
