Then you need to add the path of the jdk you installed on to your system to your system environment variables. thanks a ton . Btw what he has suggested is setting the path permanently. For those who aren't very comfortable and would like to set the path each time they open command prompt here is how it is to be done. Follow the steps until the path to the bin containing javac is copied. In CMD set the directory to where you've saved the program for instance c:\users\admin>cd\isas.  then c:\isas set path=%c%;C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.7.0_45\bin what you will get is the prompt for the next command

I continued to get the error message "javac is not recognized as an internal or external command..." until I added the path to the Path variable under "System Variables (the second box down - selected edit - made sure to separate from the other stuff there with a semi-colon). Then it worked for me.

It didnt work for me either, but I think i just copied the path wrong. I downloaded the 32 bit version and copied the way he did and it worked, so maybe 64bit has some additional problems.
