Last November Democrats swept many seats in a newly configured 11 Member Legislature. With a 7 to 4 majority, they elected our first guest tonight, Aileen McNabb Coleman to return as the Chair of the County Legislature. She was chair during part of the COVID Crisis.

With an ambitious agenda the Legislature took on issues such a re-tooling local economic development efforts.

But in the Spring, they ran into a major issue, after some bad weather, asbestos-containing vermiculite was found in the building shutting it down for use. Over several months, plans were hashed out to keep the building closed for 2 years during remediation.

It was decided in September to lease space at 63 Genesse Street – the old Marine Midland/HSBC building owned by former County Legislator Grant Kyle and his family’s KyleCroft Development for $29,000 a month with an option for an additional five years.

Compounding matters is a multi-million dollar deficit, only made worse by the building issue.

We have asked Chair to join us to talk about the status of the County Budget, a public hearing the Legislature did set to discuss possibly overriding the tax cap at the end of the month, as well as the status of the County Office Building. We will also quickly talk about the results from Tuesday’s elections, in regards to Cayuga County.
