I have loved Spandau Ballet since their first "To Cut A Long Story Short" in 1980. It was a dance club hit but didn't make the pop charts in the US. It's a great song.

Spandau Ballet and ABC are right up there on the same pedestal for me as 2 truly great groups with strong lead vocalists and clean yet dynamic instrumentals.

Tony Hadley.
Best voice of the 80's !!! .. unfortunately he didn't really get on with Gary Kemp the main songwriter so Tony left and they tried to carry on but spandau are no good without Tony Hadleys vocals..try reviewing 'Through the barricades ' and Muscle Bound as well as Chant number 1..all great songs with that fantastic voice..

Gold is basically a perfectly put together song. Interesting tone and rhythm changes, unreal vocals, power, catchy. Perfect.

I always liked this song. Good backbeat. Tony Hadley had a strong voice. He covered Save a Prayer by Duran Duran, and it was good.

As great as "True" is, I actually like this song and "Only When You Leave", better than True. I always thought this song should be a title song for a James Bond movie, not sure why but I always got James Bond movie theme song vibes from this song.

I wish more modern day songs would ulitize the sax more, it really enhances the quality of the song.

You need to check out Through The Barricades next, it will blow you away. Amazing vocals by Tony Hadley. Great band, great reaction. Loved when the drop came and took you by surprise. This is an 80s classic. It doesn't come much better than this!!!

Great music never gets old. 42 yrs on and it still sounds fantastic. Not sure if you've done it yet but To Cut A Long Story Short by Spandau is worth a listen, this was one of their first ever hits. Keep up the great work.

Spandau were so well produced and Tony had such a great voice, they stood out back then along with a few others. Great stuff! and as others have said, Through the Barricades is a MUST.

The New Romantics Genre was cool bringing new smooth lush sounds and fast fashion with glossy magazines to the new MTV generation. Lead by Manchester UK band ABC and many bands from The UK like Duran Duran, Heaven 17, Visage, Ultravox, Flock of Seagulls and of course Spandau Ballet which I believe means fast fashion in England.

Great band, amazing tuned voice, sophisticated arranges, impeccable production, lots of good songs...
I like their songs (and videos) called "To Cut A Long Story Short" and "Only When You Leave". Undoubtedly, they made some gems from the 80s.

"I'll fly for you" and "Only when you leave" are other great ones from them. They we're huge in the 80's and if you look for Tony's nowadays performances, he sounds exactly the same as he did back then!
