Οδοιπορικό από το Γεφύρι της Νήσσας προς Μονή Παναγίας Αχυρών Αιτωλοακαρνανίας

Τα παλιά Αχυρά ήταν ένα πανέμορφο χωριό με όμορφα πλινθόκτιστα σπίτια. Τα απομεινάρια του βρίσκονται 12 χιλιόμετρα δυτικά από την Κατούνα στους πρόποδες των Ακαρνανικών βουνών σε ύψος 500μ. και ήταν χτισμένο πριν το 1521, με προστάτιδα την θαυματουργή Παναγία των Αχυρών.

The "Palia (Old) Ahyra" was a beautiful Greek village with beautiful stone built houses. The ruins are located approximately 50km NW from Agrinio and 12km from the village of Katouna, at the foothills of the Akarnanian mountains, 500m altitude and it was built before 1521.
It is said that the village was cursed by a possessed person and was destroyed after a strong heavy rain, bringing down rocks and sand from the mountain. Now the village has moved nearby Katouna village.
Also there used to be a big monastery dedicated to the Mother of Jesus, now, as we see in this video, the blessed church is rebuild and is used for pilgrimages.
