WHAT SHOULD YOU DRILL NEXT?
To continue building your offense, use 2-man and 3-man breakdown drills to teach any additional elements of the offense needed.
Next, as players learn the basic elements, you should utilize game-based offensive drills. This allows for FASTER learning and transference to actual games. Because we all know, once you add real defenders, players quickly forget what to do!!
For example, when building the Hybrid Attack Offense, Coach Schultz uses a mix of breakdown drills and game-based drills with various constraints to build the offense and get players executing at a high level quickly.
WHAT IS THE “HYBRID ATTACK OFFENSE”?
The Hybrid Attack is a unique half-court offensive system that fuses the best elements of motion offense and dribble drive offense.
WHY DID COACH SCHULTZ DEVELOP THIS OFFENSE?
After running traditional Motion for several years and then switching to The Dribble Drive Motion, Coach Schultz still wasn’t satisfied…
The biggest issue was “stall outs”...
When running the offenses independently, they would experience scoring droughts where the offense went stagnant for several consecutive possessions.
One of the reasons he designed the Hybrid Attack Offense was to avoid those "stall outs" and solve that problem.
Now, when the dribble drive becomes stagnant, motion offense elements seamlessly kick in and change things up.
And when the motion offense goes cold, the dribble drive injects a surge of new attacks... keeping the defense honest... resulting in easy baskets.
In addition, Coach Schultz can’t recruit players at the high school level and he wanted something flexible enough that could be adapted to his different personnel each season.
It didn’t happen overnight, but after several years of working out the bugs, the Hybrid Attack Offense was created and they haven’t looked back since...
DOES THE HYBRID ATTACK OFFENSE WORK?
Since switching to this Hybrid Attack Offense, Ryan Schultz's Cedar Falls teams have won 2 state championships and made 5 state semi-final appearances in just 6 years!
They also led the state in...
- Offensive Rating
- Points Per Game
- Effective Field Goal %
- Field Goal %
- 3 Point %
- Assists Per Game
One of their prouder accomplishments is leading in assists per game.
Combining the best of those two offenses creates what spectators often refer to as "Beautiful Basketball". And you do so without losing that aggressive, attacking mentality that leads to easy baskets at the rim.
Coach Schultz figured out how to teach this delicate balance of both “aggressiveness” and “sharing the ball”.
