Every time I hear about the burning of the library of Alexandria I get sad and angry. I wonder how society and life would be different had all of that knowledge been preserved.

The interesting thing about that map is the landmass of Antarctica is clearly shown in other words the land under the ice. It is a great mystery where this information would have come from

His name is Ahmed Muhiyddine Piri. An Ottoman admiral. Reis is just a military rank.

Also, note that Monte Cassino library seems to have had numerous manuscripts in its vaults which the American air force turned into rubble to help the German defenders...

And don't forget that Plato's dialogue Kriton, mentions the existence of the continent beyond the Heraklean Pillars (Gibraltar)...and this probably around the 6th BC

Constantinople became the capital of the Roman Empire. When Rome was conquered by the the Eastern Roman Islamic uprising, it became istanbul, so that would say that the Romans preserved items from the Library of Alexandria

I always say as I grow older: the more that I think that I know: I know nothing!!! Amazing stuff just coming to light in our still child evolution of humanity. Never ceases to amaze me! Wish that I had many years left in this lifetime to see more discoveries!!! 👍☮️

The Piri Reis Map's 'projection origin' is Aswan, Egypt, the site of an ancient Observatory near the traditional Kemit/Kush border.

The Chinese circumnavigated the world around 1420. They shared this knowledge in their travels while trading along the way. After making the voyage home, I forget the emperor who had a majority of that knowledge destroyed.

Am i going to bet my life on his theories?
Probably not but i will always listen to his ideas. His work inspires me to think.

It’s so amazing and so unfortunate to me how much information we’ve lost. Then again.

It’s fun to imagine what information was lost in the Alexandria fire.
What’s crazy is it was an accident.

Yes If ancient Egyptians can make batteries they can travel an ocean like cmon it’s really not that outlandish. They all share similar cultures globally and architecture what are the odds ??? They all knew each other for sure.

"Much of Piri Reis's life is known only from his cartographic works...He sailed with his uncle Kemal Reis, as a Barbary pirate until Kemal Reis received an official position in the Ottoman navy in 1494. In one naval battle, they captured a Spaniard from Columbus's voyages, who likely possessed an early map of the Americas that Piri Reis would soon use as a source"

But yeah, that explanation is not very sexy... Let's imagine that the ancients, other than the vikings, already knew about America. They just didn't bother to conquer it, document it, etc.

Julius Caesar burned the library on his first trip to Egypt. Undoubtedly looted by his army.
