Breakdowns really went from rythmic 0-0-0-0 spaming 15 years ago to something that sounds like Computer-sex and multiple demon-voices mixed with some guitars in drop-jesus.

Thank you for including my band Face yourself!

We’re also grateful that you used our footage from The browning and Chelsea Grin 🙏🏻

One of my favorite breakdowns this year was Remember Me by Currents. Breakdowns can and should be more varied than just ch0nks and alien noises. Remember Me hits you with an ethereal lead and the vocals, while nothing too crazy, are just so emotional!

My favorite one this year was the ending of Periphery's "Everything Is Fine!" Having everything pitch shift down, slam on the brakes, and the "FUCK YOUR SANCTUARY" just quakes the earth. Pairing the word fuck with sanctuary may be my favorite artistic usage of profanity.

Amazing job on the video nik. My favorite breakdowns of the year are Cellar Door- Spiritbox, Everything is quiet now- Knocked Loose and Nemesis- Face Yourself.

That Knocked Loose breakdown sounds like a slower and/or crunchier version of Pantera's breakdown in Domination.

The Poetic Edda was the best deathcore song of the year for me. The breakdown with Ben is just beyond absurd, totally insane

Signs of The Swarm’s “Amongst the Low and Empty” needed a mention. That vocalist is not human.

damn no invent animate is crazy. immolation of night or false meridian or void surfacing could have easily been on here

Jiluka part goes hard as fuck, that genre is called tearout dubstep, it's basically like if you made a breakdown with crazy sound design

Some personal favs from the year:
Dissipate - Polaris (the first one)
Living In Tragedy - Currents
The Summoning - Sleep Token
Offworlder - Silent Planet
False Divinity - Texas In July
Shade Astray - Invent Animate
Labyrinthian - Humanity’s Last Breath (just too good)

Signs of the Swarm - Amongst the Low and Empty. Can't believe the breakdown at the end of that song wasn't included 😮

Discovered humanity's last breath this year and holy crap they are just amazing. This year was another level, especially with the new cattle decap and spiritbox.

My personal favs lately are the breakdown in "living with a ghost" by light the fire and "dangerous" by August burns red.
Oh and "better days" by currents when he says "I'm about to break free"

Great list, think if i could add a few;
Paleface - please end me
Signs of the swarm - amongst the low & empty
Deadlands - house of cards (not the heaviest but the almost snarling noise she produces in it is insane!

Not on this list, but I think Everytime We Touch by Electric Callboy has a fantastic breakdown in a song where you wouldn't expect it.

The poetic edda really deserves song of the year, not only the breakdown but the instrumental is awesome, never heard a violon used like that...

Fathomless Maw, Gaping Wounds of Earth, and Cellar Door were my three favorite breakdowns of the year for sure. Wild they all made the list. Shoutout to Kanine too, love those dudes. I'm normally more of a techdeath/downtempo fan, but that breakdown in Cellar Door is absolutely punishing. "I can't live in this world while I breathe in another one." THAT LINE GOES SO HARD.
