Our U.S Navy ship made a port stop in Perth for 4 days in late 1986. A bunch of us wandered around. We visited a club called Mangoes one night. Met some friendly people and had a great time there.

If you wander down Hay Street Mall today you'll notice that there are less shops open now than there were in 1986!

I was born in 1986! So I don’t remember any of this though I was technically alive at this time. I still weirdly miss the 80s though.

During my apprenticeship I had to do my college in Perth (from Darwin!). 3 months a year for 3 years, 1984 to 86. Mount Lawley TAFE. I was 18. Boy, did I do some growing up and have fun. Made friends, girlfriends and just had a ball. Nightclubs like Pinochios in the city, The Generator in Morley, Bondy's Observation City in Scarborough, great memories, . And now my home. Best city in the World.

I grew up in Fremantle in the 80s and loved every minute of it.
WAFL football at South Fremantle oval on Saturday was the best times . We’d grab a handful of pass outs at the gate then go out of the ground and sell the tickets for $3 or $4 each to people coming in the game . We’d also get the footballs when they were kicked out of the ground at the northern end and sell them for $10 each . So after making approximately $60 each it was straight to Papa Luigi on Sth Terrace and play pin ball all afternoon.
Then eat pizza with the football players after the game
Ahh the good old days in Freo as a 10 year old kid.
Stay tuned for next chapter as a 17 year old boy

1986...I was working at The Floreat, lots of nights out in Pinnochios or the Sail and Anchor, so many great bands to see, coming home to watch great new music on Rage. Driving around in a non air conditioned car with vinyl seats...ouch...Bondy's blimp flying overhead. And then...the grim reaper ads changed the carefree mood

This was before my time as a 90s baby, but I love to see the history of places I know. Some buildings not there anymore, the city is much bigger now. The overall feeling to the video is amazing. It feels like it must have been a great time in the 80s. And no one with technology in their hands - a time gone by. Perth looks so bustling and active in the 80s.
Would have loved a chance to experience it - so thank you for sharing this video!

Awww…. The Rotto tramps, the Old Quakka arms hotel (the pub), the general store and the yellow bikes. Had a look for our boat but couldn’t see it 🤣 thank you for uploading 🥰

Moved to Cairns from Perth, but it’s so true that the place was the spot to live in the 1980’s .. fantastic.
also this organ music is a trip.

great piece of history and how things have changed, have lived and worked in Fremantle for near on 15 years and it's decline was evident from the early 2000's which is sad as I can remember as a kid it was a great place to visit. The number of rough sleepers throughout the city as well as evident drug users really has not helped
