In this video we will be synthesising Triphenylmethanol via Grignard reaction.
The steps involve initial synthesis of Phenylmagnesium bromide (Grignard Reagent)
Its then made to react with benzophenone to generate the final product

This synthesis is adapted from vogels book of practical organic chemistry

Hey, I can suggest one more way to separate the compound:

You can dissolve it in concentrated sulfuric acid in order to isolate the carbocation. Then, carefully rehydrate the carbocation by pouring the mixture into ice water. Triphenylmethanol will precipitate out, and you can filter it.

Greak work! I am running this experiment tomorrow in my organic chemistry lab but on a smaller scale. It was really insightful to see the reaction performed with different equipment and synthesis techniques!

At 4:25 on the top left corner there's a mistake on the text box, it should say "30 ml of a 10% solution of sulfur acid was made..." Instead of "30% solution of sulfur acid was made...".

Hey Vibzz nice video! Grignard reactions are always fun to watch. Could you please display the molar equivalents also? Not only just grams. This helps actual chemists on scaling procedures, modifications and mechanistic understanding.

Add more sulfuric acid and the TPM will not crash out. If you then dilute the flask contents into acidic ice water, the TPM will crash out. Just might make your yield a bit better
