Sony FX3 / Dynamic Range / Slog3 vs S-Cinetone / Comparison

This is a short comparison between the dynamic range of Slog3 and S-Cinetone. Sony FX3.

While S-Log 3 does have more dynamic range in my testing, I did notice that S-Cinetone holds a bit of highlight information that seems to be "hidden" at first. Using Lumetri in Premiere pro, when I set the exposure to "-0.02" it recovers a respectable amount of highlights with S-Cinetone. Still not as good as S-log, but better than what you'd get straight out of camera.

the highlights in the sky are not lost with S-Log 3 to Cinetone match, overall S-Log 3 is superior in capturing those details. Good video :)

Cool video! i love comparisons like that! :) you could even go one stop lower with slog 3, and i think everything elsa than slog3 cripples the footage, you easily loose over one stop of information

looks like Slog to S Cinetone needs to bring exposure down some, atleast in the lows

I keep hearing about how great cinetone is and nothing I’ve shot with it looks good. I dunno. I’ve tried underexposing, overexposing, neutral exposing, it all looks weird and cheap. Maybe there’s some very controlled situations where it makes sense, but I’ll be sticking to slog3. This video drives that point home. That cinetone shot looks awful, like some early digital sensor footage. Thanks for sharing this footage!

damn cintone flawless slog 3 has a little grain in the midtones it sucks because you can color ur style on slog 3 but the cintone is mucky wen i try a lut

You can't see any differences at all - all Sony PictureProfiles are first class. S-Cinetone looks particularly good in comparison.
