3 weeks of 100-106 degrees here in my part of Texas. Walk outside, and it’s like entering an oven. And Brits wonder why we NEED Hah ha ha ha ha. Walk a block in my melting flip flops!

Americans don't just want to be different. We like what we like, and as long as it's not hurting anyone else, we really don't give much of a thought to concerning ourselves with what the rest of the world thinks about our proclivities. 😅

My husband became an American citizen in the 90’s. He is originally from New Zealand. Before we were married we lived in different states and one trip I took to visit him we just come from the store and the sodas were not cold. When I looked in his freezer to discover empty ice trays I had a fit. Where is your ice? Why did you not make ice? Who doesn’t have ice? His response, “that’s an American thing. We dont really use ice where I’m from.” My ranting response, “uh…. You’ve been an American how long now? You should still have some ice in your freezer for guests even if you don’t use it. Drinking room temp sodas sucks! When you know I’m coming to visit, you better have some ice buddy.” LOL one of my bratty moments. Don’t mess with our ice man.

Just FYI: The Ice outside of the convenience stores is not an ice Maker. It's a freezer. The ice is actually delivered there.

Ex-hotel worker here. Rooms for the ice machines were made after experience taught that #1 noise from the machines disturbed people trying to sleep, #2 ice machines left out in the corridor were attracting mischievous children and, #3 people with campers would empty out the machines in 5 minutes leaving hotel guests iceless.
Sodas made in the USA taste better when cooled and watered down with ice. Its expected.
Amazon has countertop ice cube makers.

Coke is formulated to be served at 38F. You don't get the full flavor if it served at room temperature, it might even taste terrible.

It's over 100° here today so I would die without ice. 🥵 🔥

Would be nice if James ever let Millie finish a thought or a sentence just once without interrupting her..

We also have a tabletop ice machine. They make better ice than the fridge.

This is going to sound weird, but I use to make a special trip to my local Ford dealership to buy a cup of soda. The reason is they used to have a coke machine that would fill a cup with pea sized ice and then fill it with chilled coke (or other soft drink). It was the pea sized ice that made the drinks taste so good, they were easy to drink and crunch, not like big ice cubes.

Those big bags of ice are used for barbecues, trip to the beach, tailgating, recreational sports to keep drinks cold.

The U.S. definitely likes to make a whole event out of the smallest occasions & big bags of ice comes in handy! 😂

To start with, a lot of America is just plain hot. In my hometown (Chico, California), the hottest day this year was 114 degrees.

If I cannot have ice in a soft drink like Coke, I do not want it.
And how the heck do you drink your beer so warm? Beer needs to be ice cold. No ice.

When I order orange juice, I always get the full glass and a side glass of ice, because oj is not free refills and we do like our drinks cold.

Why are we like ice:
1. Because it's hot outside.
2. To nake your drinks more refreshing.
3. As someone who enjoys a good ice crunch. Ice is crunch worthy.
4. Why not have ice 🧊😊
But nobody forces anybody to consume ice if they don't want to, it's a choice. 🙂

I think Europeans, Brits in particular have no idea how hot it is in most of the US. Ice is essential in the summertime

Refrigerators did not come along until the late 1950’s because I remember in the early 1950’s, the man would come around selling blocks of ice that was stored in the upper compartment of what was called a ice box..keeping the food in the lower part cold enough…and it looked pretty much like our refrigerators that would come along later..the blocks were 25 pound blocks..and we had ice picks to get some ice off the block..
