I remember last year following Google maps to an Airbnb, car giving up half way up a hill and having to free wheel back to somewhere less steep. Never had a car give up before. Plus no barriers to a sheer drop.

Hi Doug and Monique! Hope you are both feeling better. What a great informative video! The process you described on how to change your drivers license was really clear and exactly matched the experience we had here. It was very easy. Some people are wary about handing over their license from their home country, so getting a duplicate before you leave may be an option. However, if it's only being used to rent a car when you are on vacation, you can obviously use your new Portuguese license. I really liked the driving sequences. They clearly show why it's important to know where you are going in advance and where to avoid in a regular car. I find those gutters at the side of some roads to be very disconcerting! Cheers!

Thank you for another helpful video! I'll likely order an EV new or get a used one from mainland Portugal once I arrive in September. When buying a car is it fine to wire money from a foreign bank to the dealer or would you recommend having the funds in a Portuguese bank account? Some of those backroads look good for ebike rides!

An electric vehicle is really ideal for Madeira. I have seen slopes unsuitable for a gas car, even for a diesel. Suggestion: fly with an internet bought passage from Transavia to Porto (far cheaper than a travel agency, you'll be surprised how cheap). Buy an electric RV here in Coimbra as the german Xbus, (so I'll get a commission 🤣) Coimbra is really nice to spend some days, and then go back to Portimao for the ferry.
