NICU stands for Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. So, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit or NICU otherwise called as NICU is the place where babies less than 1 months that is typically speaking less than 28 days of age are being cared for. So this includes preterm babies that is babies who are born before 37 weeks of completed pregnancy or babies who are born at term age and are otherwise sink, which cannot be catered along with the mother. So these group of babies are treated in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit where they are provided high end intensive therapies, which includes ventilation, providing oxygen to the babies and other supportive measures which will increase the chances of survival and cure the illnesses which are specific to this newborn babies.
