The lake trio are the first non-boxart legendary to play a significant role in the main plot and the lore behind them is outstanding.
They're the first as the birds and the Regis are post game in their respective games and the Beast of gen 2 are more of a side quest rather than part of the main story (I know Pokémon Cristal is there but the game is focused on Suicune not the whole trio).
