Love these guys.  I live on a lake so we have lots of them.  We also have a lot of those awful deer flies that relentlessly attack me when I'm gardening.  Very happy to see them on the dragonfly menu otherwise there would be a helluva lot more around here.

I remember when I was a kid I got a dragonfly to hang out on my finger for a little bit. We live by a swamp that runs rampant with mosquitoes, gnats, and even horseflies, so any number of dragonflies or damselflies in the area is a huge help in the summer.

Seems the dragonflies here in North Carolina are getting bigger every year. And tear up any flying insect they encounter. Always awesome to watch, seen a few as big as a small bird. Nothing like watching them by a pond right before dark eating and darting every which way. Not surprised about military interest. Makes sense. Great footage and video

Wow I never knew they were so fast and coordinated! We used to get these things in our backyard when I was a child and during cookouts they would just slowly hover around and sometimes even accidentally run into people. Never woulda guessed they could hit speeds like 30mph
