Three candidates, two superpowers and one island. Taiwan is picking a president and a parliament on Saturday amid steadily surging nationalism in mainland China and all the talk of decoupling and derisking by the United States. Who will succeed the outgoing pro-Western president, Tsai Ing-wen? How high are the stakes?

To give some context, the percentage of Taiwanese who support unification is less than 10%. That’s less than half the percentage of collaborators in the West who support the CCP which is at 20%.

Maybe just maybe the unification can be peacefull, but it will never be democratic. Only a naive person can believe that after HK and many others.
Thanks France 24 for being impartial and well balanced in their reporting.

Mr. Meglio is very precise about the day-to-day social conditions and views of general public in Taiwan. I am amazed.

Many people in Taiwan that support unification with China hoping to build stronger economic growth and maintaining economic stability and cross-straight peace. They have the choice to vote their path

The core of the problem of Taiwan is the Sino-American relationship.

Taiwan has been recognized as part of China since 1972 by the UN, US as well as the vast majority of countries worldwide.

I think Taiwan has a choice to choose between "Peace and Prosperity" and ""Freedom" and "Democracy"".... Just need to know the difference and "true" meaning of

Taiwanese clearly rejected DPP in recent election. For sure the people will also reject DPP candidate Lai. Taiwanese are much wiser than Ukrainians amd Argentinians to avoid chaos and war.

Let's ask ourselves a question.
What is the reason for the high number of young Taiwanese seeking well-paying jobs in China?
What makes China and Taiwan, the top trade partners?
What makes China become a number one enemy of the US.
What drove the U.S. to invite President Xi to San Francisco for a business dinner as a gesture of honor?
Why you should be worried about US democracy right now?
Choose wisely, “May your choices reflect your hopes, not your fears.”
To be an enemy of America can be dangerous, but to be a friend is fatal "Henry A. Kissinger"

Future is unification by semi peaceful means where PRC will become the ruler of the provincea of Taiwan and Roc contolled Fujian. Military on the island will be absorbed into the pla and pla will hold all ports including Hualien and gaoxiong. None of armed forces are willing to die for a loss cause and will be less inclined to do so when PRC starts its curtailment of 250 billion trade with Roc and milli9ns of Roc nationals floods back on to the island from PRC due to deportation, leaving Taiwan poor and overpopulated. You can't defend an island which has no fuel, requires 60 % grain import to run and most of the population owing their livelihood though working with or in PRC.

Let's be honest here, we all know why Taiwan elections are suddenly getting so much Western attention, and that's because of the Taiwanese people's growing disdain for the American-run DPP party. America fears this trend and is scrambling to find a way to legitimise an eventual invasion of China, and if Taiwan decides to reunite with China, then America will lose another asset it uses to legitimize its complete control over East Asia. So how do you solve this problem? By insinuating that Taiwan is a helpless political victim and desperately needs America to “protect” it by invading China to keep Taiwan “safe”. If people actually cared about the democratic process in Taiwan they wouldn't be trying to interfere with it so heavily with media Crusades in support/opposition of certain parties. Let Taiwan do what it wants to do if you really do care about Taiwan, which is exactly what no one seems to be doing right now.
