Gene is joined by independent Tesla analyst, Matt Joyce (Twitter @matty_mogul), to compare Cybertruck to the much anticipated F-150 Lightning. Worth noting that the gas powered F-150 is the top selling car/truck in the US.

Remember Tesla taking a sledgehammer to the side of the Cyber Truck? I’d like to see them try that with the Ford F-150 Lightening

The top end Cybertruck is $69k, not $79k FYI

One point of clarification: the charge rate for the cyber truck is at a minimum 250 kW. During that reveal event Elon said it was going to be revealed at a later time and date but it would be higher than 250 kW. Plus, the supercharging network 🤷‍♂️

Watch for the FORDSBORNE effect.
The F150 Lightning Pro is not competing against the Cybertruck, its competing against the F150.

Oh man Matt, not sure you remember, but we met and chatted for a bit at the Cybertruck event while waiting to get into the building (Rob M. used my +1 ticket), but I got separated from everyone when we were squeezing through the door past the Wet Nellie (Bond submarine car). Now that I hear you were in the very front row, I'm upset I didn't try harder to stick with the group (I ended up a few rows back but more towards the center). What an epic event I'm sure we'll never forget! Great discussion with Gene. I agree 100% that Cybertruck will outsell F-150, no question. It's a MUCH better value. I ordered 2 of them during the live event, and one more the next day :). Cheers!

Cybertruck has frunk AND underbed storage like a Honda Ridgeline. I used to own a Ridgeline and that is literally a best kept secret! So 2 storage compartments in addition to full bed!

Thank you for the insights. Cost of ownership is important too when comparing gas vs electric. and dent damage (Tesla steel exoskeleton) are both important factors for a work truck

the stripped down version should be called the CON, not the PRO

Two years later, I won’t be driving anymore, I’ll just pull out my Tesla app and call a cyber truck to pick me up and take me to Home Depot to pick up some wood and dirt for my yard.

Stainless ultra strong body will become the standard for work vehicles.

Big question is can Ford get enough batteries and will they make a profit on these. If not, its just a side show.

The Ford appears to be position for "Commercial" order, or fleet sales to government agencies. Thus it will compete against Ford's gas F-Series that currently go after these fleet deals.

I am looking forward to delivery of my Cybertruck.

Couple other items... no wheelwells taking up space in the Cybertruck bed, the durability factor of the stainless steel versus traditional paint on aluminum, and the charging infrastructure ubiquity with CT. Ford has conventional looks going for it I guess.

I can see why Ford kept the same basic design, BUT with as many orders of the Cybertruck that there are, in a very short amount of time the traditional Ford shape will start to look dated. I think they missed a great opportunity to update the shape and design. Especially when it comes to range, the traditional shape will never get close to something as aerodynamic as the Cybertruck, so traveling and freeway travel will benefit largely from aerodynamics.

300 miles for F150 was with 1000lbs cargo and was a conservative estimate. Marcus Brownlee had one at 80% and it was showing 380miles. Marcus has estimated 480 miles range on the F150 with just the driver. We are also comparing a pre-production F150 to the Cybertruck which has never been made so all data is vaperware until they make one.

Great duo here. Please have further conversations with these two.

Once tradesmen use the cybertruck on worksites with their work friends using it ... and bragging about it, its game over for competitors really for the foreseable future.

Both trucks will sell as many as they can make and that is a good thing!

Even if Ford could match the price, performance, charging rate, etc. Many would still choose the CT because of the Tesla Supercharger Network. I am not buying either one but the Tesla charging network would make the buying decision easy for me.
