I receive many messages asking me what I pack and why I pack the things I pack. So here is my updated camping gear for 2024! I canoe camp in Minnesota and spend a lot of time in the BWCA (the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness).

We camp and hike in and around the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, we often travel, and we’re also building and enjoying an off- grid cabin in the woods and we love sharing the journey with you!

Thank you for supporting our channel :) :)

Lots of great info. I might have missed it, but we bring painters for the canoes in case we have to line them up a river/stream and also tie them up when at camp so they stay in case of strong winds. We also put a roll of TP and hand sanitizer in a dry bag and leave it at the beginning of the latrine trail. If it’s not there, you know someone is using the “facilities.”

My wife, two kids and I are taking our first trip to the Boundary Waters next May. We have been binge watching all of your videos the past few months since I discovered you. Thank you so much for doing a new gear list!! Super helpful!

Most times I'm camping away from my car (backpacking, canoeing, etc.) I'll keep clean clothes in the car for the ride home. It's a great idea! If I stop for lunch or whatever on the way home, I don't want to stink out the server.
Also, for a canoe barrel I bought a mixing barrel from Home Depot. It's the same barrel you can get specifically for canoeing, except that it doesn't have the backpack straps. It's obviously not ideal for a portage, but I usually don't do that, and it was half the price, and a great place to put all the stickers one accumulates.

Great video! Love seeing the gear loadouts… Just an idea for your liquids. Nalgene makes HDPE containers that are as small as 1 ounce or as large as 32 ounces. I’ve used them all over the world and on everyevery canoe trip and nothing has ever leaked. They also have dry goods containers that are made from polypropylene which are also great for flour and lentils, etc.

I love the tarp with the bug netting and the bug netting jacket. The Adirondacks, where my wife and I go kayak camping, has a good number black flies.
