So just for fun, if I take calendar (real one, not software) as an example

Smoke:
1. Check that there are 12 pages
2. Pages can be flipped easily

Sanity:
1. Name of months
2. Date and no. of days are correct for every month
3. Weeks are correct on every page
3. Check festival dates are correct (considering extra feature)
4. Other features are placed properly like:
a) Sundays are marked Red or any other colour
b) Festivals are marked differently
c) can be pasted/hanged properly

Everyone says in smoke testing we check critical functionality working fine or not but no-one says what exactly mean by critical functionality...please Raghav explain in detail...

Hi Raghav ..thanks for the video . But in companies some people calling sanity, smoke whenever we receives to check main functionalities. Only in interviews they are asking diff between smoke & sanity but in real time they considering as same. Correct me with more example if u dont mind ?

Still confusion for Sanity testing
1. After bug fixing we do Retesting for confirmation that whether defect is fixed or not.
2. After bug fixing or after any change or new feature introduced, we do regression to verify if there is any side effect because of that.
So what sanity testing does?

@Ragav, as per the ISTQB, smoke testing and sanity testing are same as both of them are conducted for the upper level testing. So if someone says both of them are same, will it be correct?
