I like to use a whole 4×8 sheet of plywood. That way, I won't lose it.

Or just use a 4 square box and in wall receptacle with industrial cover.

That helps greatly. I would leave the wood a bit wider to protect the plastic which is what really catches hell tho..when Cletus keeps dropping the outlet end.

And another thing: the longer the extension cord, the thicker the stranded wires inside must be in order to safely carry the high voltage and amperage. Otherwise, you may experience voltage drops and overheated extension cords.

You can also use eye screw hook on ply wood to hang it, or instead of ply wood you can also use bakolite.

I've welded for 25 years and never had much issues but that is a great idea

2x2ft hunk of plywood and cut a hand grab hole. Add a few cleats and you have a place to wind your cord or hang it up on something. You also have something to step on when pulling the plug.

Hmmm... I would have widened the cut to help protect the receptacle from side strikes.

Leave it longer on the cable entry side and strap the cable. Either way those receptacles I don't think are a proper application with or without wood, not that I haven't used them for welders a bunch of times.

Heck, leave a bit of length to add a strap onto the wire - stress relief

I have 2x4 attached with a hook on it so I can hang it up too

Leave the plywood bigger. Put strain relief in it for the cable, add a hook to hang it, attach a magnet, screw it to a wall for a less temporary location. I have half a dozen outlets for various equipment in my shop wired into gray flex conduit running directly to the panel. Easy to reconfigure when needed and if I move I can easily take it all with me.

Make sure the wire used in the extension cord is large enough to carry the load without too much voltage drop...

A little tail on the plywood toward the cord end would allow for a second strain relief clamp.

I have a 100 foot cord a friend gave me. It's as thick as a garden hose. 6 gage and I put ends on it for my welder extension cord. A 10 ft extension on the ground cable and a 30 ft on the hot lead and I'm good for most anywhere around the yard.

The side wall of a old tire is much better. Plus leave a tail with a hole . So you hook it up out of the mud .

I have a little 120v Lincoln wire welder that I loaned to a friend. He ran it on one of those cheap 100’ 14 gauge cords. Damn thing hasn’t worked since and of course he never told me about it when he returned it. Several guys have told me “he probably just tripped the reset inside the welder” Well I’ll be damned if I can find “that reset” I’ve torn the thing apart twice now looking for that reset and can’t find it. Needless to say I don’t lend tools anymore

I wrapped mine with a ton of black tape then made slots where you plug in. I didn't like the metal back either. Would suck if a wire ever came loose and touched the metal back. I know it shouldn't happen if properly tightened but accidents do happen and humans aren't perfect so just in case i wrapped mine.

I switched all my stuff to twist lock. I hate those also.
