To be pedantic, it already runs OS X. The underlying system is just OS X, it's the user space bits that are wildly different, so the UI and input etc.

I agree with you. Mobile devices should be quick and easy to use. Putting OSX on a mobile device would defeat the purpose. Cool video Dave and have a great weekend.

I think that your points are valid Dave, if Apple did put OS X onto the iPad it really would take some getting used to. I think if they wanted to make it more touch-optimized then they should create a simpler, more easier OS to use but they have kind of already done that so I think that iOS & OS X should remain separated.

Personally, I always think that iOS and OSX will be kept separate - for the vast majority of people, the use cases for each type is different. The use cases on the iPad are much simpler. In my work I can use my iPad for my basic work place functionality such as emailing, messaging, browsing (great for on the move), but I still need the desktop experience for lots of the technical aspects. OSX on an iPad would be really bloated for that vast majority. Of course, Microsoft are experimenting in this (narrow) market with the Surface Pro2 and Pro3 where they believe there is enough demand for a full desktop experience in a tablet -> is that doing well? Finally, I do believe something which Chris Pirillo recently said which is probably the naming will come together so rather than iOS8 and OSX Yosemite there will be a consistent name for which people will just say "it's an Apple" since the integration and look and feel is converging in a huge way.

Your right mobile and desktop are very different but i do think some elements of the desktop should be used in IOS on the iPad because i think it looks far from elegant in it's current form. What i am saying is iPad and iPhone should not be the same as the iPad as more screen surface area. I would like to see the dock run horizontal more of a design change than a overhaul of the software.

This is a really interesting video, I think you're right I can't see Apple putting OS X onto it's mobile devices. iOS is so far ahead in it's ease of use and adoption rates that I think to drop it would be slightly foolish.
