The reason James did this video is because then Linus would have dropped every single iPhone to keep count.

If "i" was for "internet", where did iPod came from? My iPod mini never had an internet connection. Did I miss the settings for internet? ;-)

Please do a series of these, for example GPU's, Sony, Xbox, Xiaomi, USB, Intel etc.

I guess Sony's naming scheme is so confusing Techquickie completely forgot about them.

I always learned the “i” meaning I, as in me, or end user (iPod, iMac, iBook, etc.); ‘e’ meant education (eMac); and Power meant professional user/environment (PowerMac, PowerBook).

While the naming scheme is inconsistent ACROSS generations, within the same generation itself the naming scheme is very easy to decipher. For instance, in the current lineup - Mini is the small one, the suffix less one is the standard, the pro is the one with more features and the pro max is the big boy version of the pro. The SE of course is the midrange/budget model.

The naming scheme from and including 3g to 7 was perfectly consistent and even X→XS→11 was solid but then they botched it going right to the 12. Should’ve been the 11S mini, 11S, 11S Pro, & 11S Pro Max, but considering the design change it makes some sense to do a full number leap

Eh, I love hating Apple as much as the next guy, but I think they have one of the better naming schemes out of the big companies. There is SO many worse offenders

I think honestly he's trying to make it sound more complicated than it really is. out of all apple products the iPhone is the most straight forward named one. there's minor differences but they're always 1 higher than the last. i cant think of another brand who has a better naming scheme for their phone having nearly as many generations as the iPhone has had.

macbooks and don't get me started on nintendo 3Ds' have abysmal naming schemes

After having some great phones like the Sony Ericson K880i and the Nokia N95 2, I came into iPhone at iPhone 4. I had it for a couple of years, but was frustrated with it's closed eco system. I've been Android ever since and my most memorable phone from the past was the Alcatel Idol 4 which came included with a VR headset. For me the best thing about it was its 360deg use. No matter how you picked up the phone you could use it even for calls, no need to spin the phone in your hands to have it the right way up. I also loved the fact that its top and bottom stereo speakers where front and rear firing, so when playing music you could put the phone face down on a surface you would still get full stereo sound firing from the rear. Other than that, I've had a range of Android phones, mainly Samsung, ranging from the Note 3 & 4, to the S8 and recently the A71. I found that as I was getting older and my phone use was becoming more routine, I realized that Flagship phones where pointless for me given what I actually use them for day to day. However, I have now made the decision to get the iPhone 12 (the standard one). There's been increasing problems with security on Android over the last couple of years and I think that Apples eco system although still closed overall, its also more flexible as a device. I've been buying £400-500 phones over the last few years and that jumping to a £900 phone is a lot. But its like the gap between the 1000 series Nvidia GPU, vs the 2000 series GPU and now the 3000 series Nvidia GPU. When you compare the iPhoneX to the 11 and 12, the changes in the iPhone 12 are enough that its worth going straight into the iPhone 12 now, instead of buying an older generation phone cheaper and waiting for the iPhone 12 to drop in price which will only happen when iPhone 13 is launched anyway. And I'm guessing just like the iPhone X and 11, the iPhone 13 won't have changed enough from the 12 to be worth talking about let alone pay £900 for. I think the iPhone 12 is a good sweet spot to move back to Apple and I really look forward to getting my new phone in a couple of weeks.... (back order, not enough stock lol).
