Highly recommend the Tubeless setup on the Roscoe. HardTail is where my heart is at. It's fun, capable and I'm not bombing down mountains in Utah. I think you made a good choice based on the riding you do. Plus you have like 20 more bikes, gotta make room. haha!

I won’t buy a full suspension bike because I know I’ll get stupid and hurt myself! I have to work and take care of my family - I’m too old to be doing big jumps and drops. My Marlin does all I need it to and keeps me reigned in a little.

Sounds like you're may want a downcountry bike like a Transition spur, the new Trek Top fuel, or Giant trance 29

Guerrilla gravity trail pistol is on my short list of trail bikes to own.

The new version of the Top Fuel is perfect for what you’re looking to do. But you won’t need the Polygon if you get one.

I completely hear you on the injuries and very capable bike thing. After a certain downhill speed I feel like it becomes a diminishing return. Having a good feeling body is priceless

Matty I had a feeling that the Status was gonna get sold. As you stated it’s not a good climbing bike, actually not designed for serious climbs. Yeah you can power through & do the climb but it’s not gonna be a fun climb. Mullet setups can be fun climbing it just comes down to having the correct geometry on the bike frame. I run mullet on all my bikes after experimenting with multiple setups.

As for your next bike just really focus on geometry, ie. Reach, seat tube, chain stay, bottom bracket height, & headtube angle for starters.

Consider a trail bike or XC bike geometry, honestly that’s why you’re enjoying the Roscoe & polygon.

I personally can’t recommend a bike for you because bikes are like shoes, what fits me may not fit you & vice versa. But you can not go wrong with the information I shared above. Good luck with your research & I look forward to your next bike.

I still love my Status. But I'm about 25 years into this biking thing and pedal strikes are not a thing for me. I defended spend more effort avoiding them on the Status. It's definitely a bit of a beast to climb, but she'll get there.

I've been very happy with the Polygon Siskiu T7, 27.5. I also have an upgraded Marlin 5, 29r. Those two bikes give me everything I need for XC to aggressive trail riding.

I kind of felt like that bike wasn't really doing it for you. You definitely seemed to have more fun on the Roscoe and Polygon. Maybe get something that has 140mm to 150mm of travel. YT has some really nicely spec'd bikes. Good that you don't keep anything that isn't giving you exactly what you are looking for.

Man you made a terrible mistake :D

I have the status and its a bike that may not be the best climber, but it's a bike that no matter how much you progress as a rider the bike has no limit and you don't need a more capable machine. I think upgrading it and changing tires is just overall better way - especially now.

It is a decent climber just not for technical climbs - but it's an enduro bike so that's understandable. Mullet? does not matter on the climbs - its the weight and low quality wheelset it has - especially rear wheel and hub. The geo is quite modern - just the chainstay is short - but that's what you like about status. The low BB is a good thing - you just need to learn to live with it - the bike gets more planted, more poppy, more playful overall more fun going down. Many people complain about low BB on climbs and don't know what a gem it actually is.
Pedal strikes? It really depends on what climbs you do, but overall getting it to high setting and learning when to and when not to pedal is a skill - skill that you really need to learn. I also suffered a lot of pedal strikes and hated it, but as I rode Status more and more I eventually realized it's really about my wrong line choice and about not thinking it through when pedalling.
It really is no miracle machine on climbs, but eventually with each bike you will encounter a trail where you really have to consider how you want to pedal on climbs.
It's a shame really, but at least someone else will get the joy out of this shredder.

You need to add tokens in the rear so it doesn’t go through its travel I had a dpx2 on my Capra 29 that I hated cause pedal strikes too

I'd love to see some videos of you upgrading the Polygon. Tires, handlebars, dropper, wheels. Check out PNW components

i was thinking about buying this bike; SPECIALIZED STATUS ( 2022 model). Its a nice looking full suspension mountain bike. it’s also available in the U.K. 🇬🇧 but then… there’s also that TREK REMEDY 8 I’ve seen it in action on YouTube. Looks pretty cool too.
So, really, it’s a question of… “make up your mind”. time. Might end up buying that TREK. In the U.K. it cost’s around £3K A really nice looking bike though.

I would go for some hardtail with progressive geometry :)

If you're still even looking for a big bike to do big bike things, but want something that pedals well, check out the Ripmo. It pedals great, and the weight is reasonable in a carbon build, but even the alloy build pedals great, it's a beast at tech climbing, and donwhills both. Otherwise maybe look at the Stumpjumper or Giant Trance X if you want more of a general trail bike.

Any bike slacker than 65 is going to be a bitch to climb with that’s just fact. My status isn’t the funnest to climb but it handles literally everything I throw at it so it all depends what you ride on the regs. In nor cal it’s steep, loose and chunky so I’d rather be over biked than underbiked.

I think this is a smart move, Matty, you can only ride one at a time, and you know what you like to do now that you've been doing it for a while. Get the bike that fits you! Admit it, the fact that it doesn't say TREK on it doesn't help...:) They should sponsor you! I have an idea for a video series, hook up with Joe, I'm not sure how far from you he lives, but if it's practical get with him and do a series on upgrading the Polygon to make the bike you actually want. You'll spend a few hundred bucks on parts, but the bike was free after all, and you'll end up with the bike you wanted all along! Plus you can learn how to take things apart and put them back together.

Hi matty, I own a roscoe and then purchased a fuel ex and still have both, I really like the roscoe the most. I don't think full suspension is everything and Yes the fuel more capable and easier on the body but I think the roscoe more fun.
