It's nothing but a marketing ploy.

I work in digital marketing... And yes "Natural" is in some part for marketing... But so is "Non-GMO" sometimes, I've literally sold more Salt online by the company adding "Non-GMO"... How the hell do you Genetically Modify Salt? It's literally just Sodium & Chloride, but hey it works!

I thought this was a no-brainer, but the fact that so many people just pick up a product thinking "Oh it says natural on it, therefore it must be good for me!" concerns me. These are the same people who just hear the word "chemical" and suddenly think it's cancerous. The world is made up of chemicals, it's just become a triggerword for ill-informed people.

"Natural means free from chemicals" So what, these people like, want all their energy from sunlight and they don't drink water?
Water is a Chemical, so is Sugar, Starch, and Protiens and so on.
The failure of this system is that people don't know what these words mean, and the companies prey on this ignorance.

People don't pay attention in high school chemistry and science, and grow up without the knowledge they need to understand what these things actually are.

dextrose is literally sugar... natural sugar... just because it has a weird sounding name doesn't mean it isn't natural. also just because something has chemicals in it doesn't mean it isn't natural. H2O is a chemical, and you've probably ingested it and enjoyed it

I think what you are referring to is "man-made chemicals, " but please say what you mean.

The whole idea of "natural therefore good" isn't a universal law either. It depends entirely on what the artificial ingredients are. If it's pumping your chickens full of penicillin and breeding resistent bacteria, "natural" is an improvement. If it's an additive that we could either synthesize or extract from plants, "natural" just means the same useful chemical plus some impurities.

"Natamycin? What the hell is that?" *on package* 'Natamycin (A natural mold inhibitor)'

Just because you haven't heard of a word, doesn't mean it's artificial.

natural = things that don't require labels. The fact that there's a label for you to read is already a red flag.
