Interview with Experts: Tips for Teaching Beekeepers with Anne Frey

In this installment of our Interviews with Experts series, join Betterbee's Director of Research and Education, Dr. David Peck, as he sits down with Betterbee’s Head Beekeeper and EAS Master Beekeeper, Anne Frey. Listen as they compare notes on teaching beekeeping, drawing from their mixed backgrounds and decades of combined experience teaching people at all levels about bees.

Teaching and beekeeping are both skills, and you need to understand both to put on a good beekeeping class. This video probably won't make you a better beekeeper, but it may help you make other people into better beekeepers!

This video will be especially useful for anyone preparing to teach a beginning beekeeping class or to give a lecture to their local bee club.

Hi David and Anne, great video! David, I met you at EAS in Amherst MA last year and you also answered my question on who was the first person to start OA treatment on David Burns’ recent livestream! Thanks to both of you for the work that you do!

Starting my first hives after 5 years of research! I am really looking forward to this, even though I don't have a mentor. I have watched so many videos about the hives, inspections and what to expect! This was really invigorating after all the Facebook posts about hives absconding during fall. I'm building the bee barn from vino farms. I have read at least 5 different books on bee keeping and am growing mycelium as well to test out how much it works with bees. I'm in northeastern Nevada where there aren't any bee associations except for Reno in northwestern NV. I want to start an association here but am not sure how.

Great content and discussion. I’m talking to our association next week and will apply some of the tips and tricks.

Anne, thank you! I am sure you lead a winter beekeeping zoom my first winter and it was suburb! Nothing at all against male teachers or mentors, but we are under represented! I appreciate your experience and expertise! Thank you both for this fun interview!

Awesome Video, I am writing a proposal to start a beekeeping club at Monroe Community hospital. We are a long term care facility run by Monroe County in Rochester, NY. I am looking for any guidance or recommendations of resources to help me get my proposal together.
