In this video, I give my advice for the best answer to the job interview question "If You Were an Animal, Which One Would You Want to Be?" Many people have asked the question "What animal am I?" - what does this question even mean? Why do recruiters and hiring managers ask it? Many candidates dread these unintuitive and cryptic job interview questions. There are many variations of this question such as "what cat are you?", "which bird are you?" "which TYPE of bird are you?", but they are all essentially the same question, and we give the same answer to all these. If you are one of the unlucky candidates who gets asked which animal are you, learn my easy guide to answering this question.

I'd like to be an eagle. To fly off from this interview.

Dear friend!

I stumbled upon your channel exactly when I was looking for a job, was much discouraged and felt awful.

Your suggestions helped me to detach myself from negative feelings due to recruitment processes and was able to get very well paid job with many benefits. My new employer actually offered me much higher salary than the range I proposed during the question in the job interview.

I am very grateful for all your encouragement and sharing experience 🙏

I would go with an octopus because they are smart, can do many things at once, and can adapt to almost any situation. They also happen to be my favorite animal for completely different reasons but I feel like it’s a good answer for me. I don’t really feel like a dog though I wouldn’t be upset with a horse.

Another good one would be a bee. Bees work independently but for the good of the colony, are great at communication, are hard workers, and are just the sweetest. Ok, maybe I wouldn’t say the last one

“If you were an ice cream flavor, what would it be?” A recent interview question. I said that I would be Neapolitan because I am some of everything. I got the position.

I answered platypus and they laughed and were taken aback. They asked why that, "Well, I am unique in that I come from many different backgrounds which I bring the best qualities from those experiences just as the platypus has many characteristics from different animal groups making it unique. This was for a Project Manager position

Thank You for this topic our CEO. I love this topic. I was actually asked this question and I actually mentioned being an Eagle because the animal always sees the bigger picture and can help other animals in the kingdom spot possible dangers ahead and great opportunities or fertile land to exploit.

My answer would be - Ants, depending on the position you are aiming for they are good at teamwork, creating something bigger than they are, excelent at following orders, best at being in charge of a massive population (queen, executive position) while keeping best interests of community as a whole in mind.

I'd be a raccoon: I live at night and would accept all the trash that you offer.

OK YOU'RE HIRED

A beaver is a good answer. They're independent, hardy, builders who love to work on and maintain large infrastructure projects.

I don’t know why but this is a question that I make to many people that I meet out of the work as a joke, but it shows really much about oneself. Btw, I recently began my MSc in Strategic HRM and they asked me that at the interview part. I said dolphin🙄

Elephant was my immediate response: long memory, rides in a herd, strong... something on those lines. And how about bee? Hard working, useful, although you might not want to say Queen Bee.
