The D-Lux 8 is really a camera that grows on one over the time. For me personally, I don't really get these comparsion between the D-Lux and the Fuji or Ricoh GR. The D-Lux is in one row with cameras like the RX100 line, or the Gx series from Canon. Compared to those cameras you can see the difference in the depth of the files.
The X100 and Gr are a different breed of cameras. I don't know if someone really decides between the D-Lux 8 and the Fuji X100VI.
The lens of the Leica isn't the best on this planet but it is a little marvel, how they achieved to build such a small 24-75mm F1.8-2.8 and put it into that small body of the former LX100I/II. If you compare it to a normal 12-40mm F2.8 mFT it's close to unbelivable. Yes, it's super heavy digitally corrected, but at the end it is what it is. Canon did something similar with the G5XMKII 1" and it's 24-120mm F1.8-2.8. Those two lenses are the most special in the world of compacts. But in the end it's the bigger sensor, that gives you a lot more room for adjustments.

I have the D-Lux 8. Its great. I reckon any camera of this type will give very similar results. How you edit them will make the most difference regardless. Anyone who knows photography can pick up near o any modern camera and get what they need. The zoom Lens and macro facility mixed with the awesome menu system is what sold me on the Leica as an every day carry camera.

I bought the D-Lux for my wife - still waiting after 2 months. The zoom is for me the deciding factor. She will like the camera. Both of those are good cameras but the choice depends on what you want to do. The D-Lux is more versatile for her use. I use 35 mm on a Canon r6mkii a lot.

Ok my last comment. I have a Fuji x100f and the Leica d lux 8. I love the feel and handling of the Fuji and use it primarily for the jpg quality that it puts out. For the Leica I use the raw dng files and to be honest I'm wowed by the quality of the shots. I edit the dng files literally with the Lightroom tablet (free) app and the results are amazing. The handling is different because the Leica is more of a compact camera than the Fuji. Love both cameras and plan to keep both.

I own the Leica D-lux 8 got it 1 month ago put it true real pro work and not a complaint so far image quality is Amazing, but of course you must know your settings if you don’t set them properly you will have more hard time. I also use this Camera with a Godox Nikon Flash for corporate Event and not a problem at all. The main reason for this purchase is street photography for just pure joy. The only thing I really miss about there is no mike input 😢 because video is really good. The one thing I love the most is the EVF really bright and that Amazing leaf shutter lens with a small flash you can make absolutely great images. Regarding the Fuji one focal lens did not cut for me that all.

Loving these comparisons Tony!
The D-Lux is in grow mode for me. Changed a Couple of settings and really dig it. Especially after the latest firmware. I had not updated mine since I bought it. AF Works really good now

I have a Fujifilm X-T3 and some primes and zooms. I wanted a second/travel camera so I had the option of traveling light. I looked at the Fuji X100 because I owned the X-T3 but wasn't sold on a fixed focal length if it was the only camera with me. I bought an LX 100 II instead. I used the LX100 II now and then and liked it for what it was but didn't love it. I took it on a 2 week trip to France and left the Fuji at home. Having to use it exclusively every day and facing different shooting situations changed my mind. The lens is very versatile, the camera can be a fully auto point and shoot or an engaging shooting experience using the dials. Bottom line, the LX100 II grew on me, I got some incredibly sharp colorful images and am very happy I own one.

I like the fact that not everyone is saying, "This is Leica, and it is the best". I like you honest opinion about the D-Lux 8.

I don't understand why there aren't many videos covering the downsides of the Leica with a m34 sensor.

It's not about the DLux8 taking some magic pictures.. but more the Fuji X100V just being an overhyped point and shoot. You can easily get similar performance on much cheaper cameras the only issue are controls not great on both cameras them being so small.

These real-life images actually show some close equivalence in quality. I’ll admit, I was one of the first to bash the D-Lux 8 and deify the x100 (without first-hand experience). Now that I have the x100vi, the image results are not that amazing…probably very similar to the D-lux. I don’t have the D-Lux, but the x100vi does shine in terms of compactness, beautiful body design, built-in flash and ND, IBIS, and film simulations. The Achilles heel however, is the confusing, complex menus design.
The Leica D-Lux could catch up somewhat if they included the latest Leica Looks and added built-in ND filter and IBIS.
Lesson learned: I fell in for the hype and now own the hipster x100vi. Making the best of it…

I was very interested in your video when it was suggested to me since I own both cameras and a Leica Q3 43. I repeatedly compared them on this and my previous channel and I could not agree more with your analysis, I love them both for who/what they are but I really love the Leica's upgrade from 7 to 8. Subscribed 😀

Very insightful, thank you. I only wish they'd have made it a manual action zoom.

3:47 the ‘less’ deep red or slight orange red of Fuji has always bugged me. Love that deep red of the Leica. I’ve never owned a Leica but owned many Fuji. One tweak to help this is to crank up the Color Chrome effect on the Fuji.. I like Fuji reds better this way.

I like the thumbnail! The pictures are pretty and the fuji is not that far diff from the Laica. I have this Laica and there is nothing special about it to be honest.

I was hanging out for the D- Lux 8 but as a Fuji man went for the 12 year old Fujifilm X30 instead, only 12mp but an awesome X Trans sensor. Does have that same manual zoom problem of dust that the D Lux / LX100 range has though.

Why were the Fuji raw files DNG? Fuji native raw files are RAF. If you converted them to DNG, you are introducing a variable in your comparison as Adobe will do Crom knows what to the file.

You really killed it with this thumbnail, it looks awesome man!
And really liked the shot of these cars :)
I know a lot of people think a comparion of these camera does not make much sense, since they have different approaches, but since they are roughly in the same price range I think a comparison is quite interesting.
As a Lumix LX100 M1 owner (same body and lens) I do appreciate the versatility of a pocketable 24-70 equivalant point and shoot, but between the D-Lux8 and the X100VI, I personally would pick the X100VI. Beside film sim and build in ND the video features of the VI is very impressive, if someone does value video.
But if the Ricoh GR IV drops in 1-2 years, the choice would be in favour of the Ricoh I guess, because of the form factor :D
Great job on the video Tony and can't wait for the next one :)
