It remains a classic performance 50 years later. I saw this when it was first shown on the BBC, it blew me away then and it still does. Humble Pie were such a great act.

Love love love Steve Marriott. Saw Humble Pie twice, both times incredible. The second time they had The Blackberries with them.

The back up singers called themselves the "Blackberries", and were (from left to right) - Billie Barnum, Vanetta Fields, and Clydie King. All were very experienced backup singers who had been Ikettes and Raylette's. Steve loved the idea of having backing singers who had performed with his heroes. Venetta and Clydie also backed up many other artists of that era, so it's possible Linda Ronstadt might have been one. Steve absolutely loved and respected the "chicks" (as he called them), and they loved him back. Vanetta wrote that when she first met Steve, he got on his knee and kissed her hand. She said "he was outlandish, but we loved him!"

According to Steve's wife Jenny, around this time, Steve and Clydie were having a "thing". Steve also had an affair with PP Arnold while she sang back up for him on Tin Soldier.
PP (Pat) said Steve was the only white boy she dated who didn't try to hide it and even took her home to meet his mother - "he was that real" and a sweetheart... Sorry to gossip, but since they are all gone now (sadly), I guess it doesn't matter. RIP Steve, Clydie & Vanetta

Fantastic cover! My favorite band of the 70's. Fortunate to see them 4 times in concert.

I still get goosebumps whenever I see this clip. Marriott was such a great performer. Unmatched vocalist.

Watching your reactions to Steve Marriot's BEST performance is pure joy to me. Jamel and friends, your appreciation for the blues and for the power and depth of his voice gives me hope that Humble Pie's music will never lose its appeal. I met him 2 nights in his hotel rooms in 1972 when he was touring the Midwest. My friend at school had been a DJ in St. Louis while in high school and had interviewed him on the air - LIVE. My friend insisted that three of us go see Humble Pie's concerts during that week - a short drive from our university to Louisville, Cincinatti and St. Louis. Steve Marriott was as engaging in person as he was mesmerizing on stage. Looking back over these 50 years and hearing his voice, I realize that I have always measured every blues musician against Marriott. Very few musicians have ever been his equal in terms of guitar magic, harmonica finesse, and his raw and emotional voice. You noticed it too. It is my hope that you will continue to remember his music and come back to it again time after time.

It was only a couple of years ago that I found out that this is an Ike & Tina song. The original and the Humble Pie cover are both amazing. Steve Marriott was an amazing musician. I'm sad I never had the chance to see him perform.

Venetta Fields is one of the three wonderful backing singers, The Blackberries. She was born in Buffalo, and is now an Australian Citizen. She lives on the Gold Coast, Queensland. She is one of our best known singers, who backed John Farnham for lots of years. Love her voice ❤❤❤

This man has soul and grit. I love how he taps into his influences and peers, then just projects it perfectly. My skin is white but my soul is black! Yep, I’m the same way. Great reactions guys. I’m a fan of yours now.

Early 70's first concert I ever attended. War opened for them. Houston, Texas...the Music Hall. Magic.

Probably the most authentic Chicago style blues to come out of Britain

I recently read Led Zeppelin wanted Steve as the lead vocalist but he said no as he was involved with other projects. Robert Plant who became Zeps lead vocalist was inspired by Steve Marriott’s vocal talents.

Black coffee ☕️ and Humble Pie 🥧 TASTEE AS IT GETS!! Steve could say "my skin is white but my soul is black" without ANY backlash. No doubt-just checkout the Sistas-Blackberries singing with him. Love this, and HUMBLE PIE!!! "That's where its at!"

This is exactly why I love your reactions. You always find the good. Keep it up brother. We’re all in this together. Music is the common denominator.

Caught these guys with Robin Trower in San Antonio in 1975. Peter Frampton was the guitarist for Humble Pie before he went on his solo career in 1971.

Oh, I loved humble pie. I still have the album smokin. I hope you listen to several of their songs one of them 30 days in a hole is great also. It was glorious that British bands loved the R&B sound, and kept that tradition going.
