After a long adventure and getting lost, seeing home pillar gives you a sigh of relief.

Bro, I remember my very first minecraft world back in 2012, I was so scared of getting lost or losing track of my base, so I built a pillar just like that and only explored out directly north, south, east, or west. Anytime my pillar fell out of render distance, I just built another pillar to the sky and tacked a few blocks at the top to point in the direction of my base. That way I'd always know the direction home.

Personally, I want them to add a way to mark points on a map, like there is on treasure maps. It would make them far more useful, and give you a reason to use them aside from decoration

Bro I loved using the weird towers to mark things. The best feeling was when you would come back maybe from being lost, or a battle, and seeing that wonderful tower of whatever blocks were in your grasp. Ah, the good old days.

Instead of removing the coordinates completely, Minecraft should make you have to go to the settings and turn on coordinates like bedrock edition rather than the f3 buttons to make players tired of having to go in the settings every time they want to turn on coordinates so they would build more pillars instead, but not entirely removing the coordinates.
