How It Feels to Take ADHD Medication: First Day on Vyvanse (Elvanse)

What it feels like to take ADHD medication? This is the story of my first day on Vyvanse (Elvanse).
I discuss the benefits and side effects I experienced like calm, focus, impulse-, and appetite control, but also headaches, blood pressure, insomnia, and sleep disturbances.

Hopefully, this helps you understand what you can expect from taking ADHD medication for the first time ever. It's never like the first few days, but it's still good to be prepared, so you know what to do.

"I felt like I had been cheated out of a lot of success in life", this hit hard. Exactly how i felt being diagnosed at the age of 37 and getting my medication.

I'm on my first day trying it. I noticed if I left a task to go and take care of something else I could get back to the original task without forgetting or being distracted. Good luck everyone x

I’m 40 and just got diagnosed with ADHD. The first week taking Vyvanse was unreal. My mind is so much calmer and I was able to just enjoy being in the moment. I was able to just sit and have lunch with my wife and not be bombarded with 15 thoughts at once. If I had only started taking this in school. It was a real life changer for me and I’m very excited for the future just living my life.

This is my exact same experience. I told my mom it's like a million tv stations playing once stopped and I could focus on a specific channel. Vyvanse has been a life changing experience not just in my personal life, but my professional life as well.

I started on 30mg and felt nothing. Didn’t do a thing, and I wanted to cry. We were supposed to increase to 50, but try finding that in the US right now. I had leftover 30s, so I took two. And I nearly cried for another reason. THIS is what I’m capable of? I’ve owned my own law firm for 14 years. I have a literary agent and have published 8 books. But NOW it doesn’t feel like I’m always on the edge, at the last minute, procrastinating even when I know the ramifications. To toot my own horn, I’ve done very good without medication. I feel like I’m going to be a beast with it.

Just got diagnosed at 27. Took my first dosage of 40mg Vyvanse and man, everything makes so much sense. My anxiety was being triggered by my ADHD... i wish i would have known this prior to being prescribed 60mg of valium per day for anxiety. Thankfully i no longer take Valium or any other meds but the Vyvanse now :) Day 1 and very thankful.

Started last week. Before it was like im stuck in a swamp and whenever i wanted to do anything it was so difficult to move and do it, it took soo much energy and focus but now it dosnt take any energy to do anything. When i took it for the first time i felt like im on vacation, i felt so peaceful. No more chaos.
I also feel less desire for anything but id say its because everything is giving me joy now not just food or driving my cute lil corolla

My Adderall, which I've been on for about 5 year, went on backorder last week, so right now I'm remembering what it was like before I started taking it. It's a miracle of God that I managed to get a college degree. The focus from the drug has wained slightly since I ramped up to the dosage I'm at, but it still helps keep my life manageable, and this week has definitely highlighted just how helpful it is.

Got diagnosed this year, age 42 and started my medication in June. The first week with the appropriate medication is absolutely a once in a lifetime experience. I also felt I was reborn on that week. Everything was smooth and felt extraordinary. It's like being in flow state all day long. Now that I'm 3 months in, I don't feel the medication at all, it became transparent. But I know that if I skip some days during the week-end, or if I'm trying to pack a luggage way past bed time (i.e when medication has run off), I'm all over the place once again.

I just got my prescription and I've been scared to start it. This video put me at ease and made me less scared. Thank you. ❤️

Took my first dose today and literally spent an hour enjoying the peace and quiet in my brain before starting my day it was so nice and centering. I have mild dry mouth but I’m just making sure to drink water :)

I’ve recently started Vyvanse, but I haven’t felt any different. I’m only on 20mg, though, so I’m really excited to up my dose at the end of the month in the hopes I’ll get to feel like you. I just want focus and a quiet brain.

I'm at the end of my diagnosis process and will be discussing medication in a couple of weeks.. im so anxious. Im worried that it wont work for me or if it does work and I'll be angry that i went my whole life without it. I'm mostly excited though. Thank u and all the other ADHD creators in this space for providing so much useful info.

I'm on my first day! I loved the feeling of being productive and finding some semblance of joy in mundane things. The highlight, though, was being able to stop my mind from having a million conversations that I knew I would never have with anyone. It made me want to cry just to be able to shut it down on command, not drift through a sea of chaos and just be able to be present while I was driving or doing the dishes. By the way, thank you for sharing your journey! I can't stress enough how important it is to learn I'm not alone in this. ❤

It’s cool how you pronounce Elvanse! Thanks for your videos. This is the second one I’ve watched. I started Elvanse 30 mg on Monday last week. I love the clarity and peaceful mind that it induces. My favourite thing to do is to take a shower after I have taken my meds and breakfast. The water droplets falling on your head and skin feels so good! 😊 Your house looks amazing by the way. Keep making videos please 🙏🏻

Second day: I remembered the laundry in the dryer, from the day before, jumped out of bed 20 minutes after I took my Ritalin, and folded the laundry and put it away, before my family woke up and started a new load.

I feel much more balanced.

I got my half dose yesterday after I got my prescription, I did drive on the motorway at night without being sensory overloaded by the lights and other cars, I normally hate driving on the motorway in the dark, as it is a sensory nightmare but it isn't with ADHD meds.

And my binge eating disorder I have struggled with all my life, the impulses for a dopamine hit with food is gone, I eat when I am hungry and stop when I am full, I don't eat after dopamine anymore, only after nutrition. This is the biggest thing and the one who has caused me the most health issues over the years.

With Adderal on back order, I am having to switch to this medication. Not having my Adderal is really effecting my ability to work so I needed to do something. Excited to see how it goes!
