Hey guys, Merry Christmas! Niyat here with film comics explained. As voted for by everyone in the latest poll, today we’ll be exploring Barbarian, the 2022 horror written and directed by Zach Cregger.

Starring Bill Skarsgard, Georgina Campbell, Justin Long and Richard Brake, it follows Tess Marshall, a young woman arriving in Brightmoor Detroit for a job interview.

Finding her Airbnb reservation was double-booked by another man staying there, despite some alarm bells ringing in her head, she decides to stay.
Unfortunately, its not long until a twisted malevolence within the home makes her regret that fateful decision.

Tense, serendipitous, claustrophobic and at times stirringly humorous, Barbarian is an uncomfortable and dark ride into trust, prejudice and wickedness.

Hey there folks!! My name is Niyat and this channel was created to assist in answering all your questions about Films, Comics, Games and Popular culture in a fun and engaging way!

Sounds weird to say this about a horror movie, but I’ve never been in a theatre that laughed so hard during the measuring tape scene. I laughed so hard and so did everyone else.

This was my favorite horror movie of the year by a mile! It was so refreshing just to have a different style of horror film that didn’t take itself to serious but still kept me hooked the entire time.

The second Keith didn’t respond she goes back upstairs and calls the police again but this time reports a missing person and tells them about the underground room prompting actual detectives to respond to the call. Roll credits.

“And just like that, the woman straight up smashes through the wall like the Kool-Aid Man.”

Sometimes I forget why I enjoy your videos so much, along with the analysis of the videos, we also see your humor show up

As someone who grew up not far from the setting of this film, this gave a new sense of paranoia😅

Not really explaining the film, just reading the plot

I liked the story structure, the dialogue, and the visual style. I just couldn't get past the logic problems. Forty years is not enough time to spawn generations of victims that would be necessary to genetically damage his offspring to that extent. There's also no explanation for her superhuman strength and ability to defy the laws of physics. I'm not sure what changes would improve it for me but I definitely plan to see Zach Cregger's future work.

A scene you didn't mention is when Frank is talking to his neighbour Doug, who is just about to sell his house because that neighbourhood is going downhill. It really goes to show how you can think you know someone and be all buddy buddy with them while being completely oblivious of what a monster they truly are and what dark secrets they're hiding.

I agree with lots of other commenters...this movie was super high on the list for 2022. There were several scenes that left me speechless and the direction/pacing was done very well to keep giving you endorphin hits.

Barbarian starts out as a simple film about paranoia but then turns into a messed up slasher/monster hybrid that is an allegory for women's mistreatment

This was a great surprise. This, Smile, I'm always happy when some great horror graces us with its grim presence.

I was in L.A. and I noticed this car with some girls in it. It was dark and they didn't have thier car lights on. I was about to tell them when a lady, I think homeless based on her looks, began to tell them. She told them several times, but the girls just stared at her like she was crazy. They drove off, with the lights off, hopefully they didn't hit anyone ot anything. Judging a book by it's cover is dangerous. This lady was helping them and they instead chose to gawk at her.

Frank's part was probably my favorite in the whole film, giving such an eerie, stressful feeling just his strange dimener alone. Also, I mean Richard Brake is a fuckin win

I love how this film implies that years of inbreeding can develop superhuman strength lmao.

Great movie and video.

Came here to say that you’re the only video essay I’ve watched so far that acknowledges that Tess forgot to lock the room door because she’d had a nice time with Keith and forgot to lock it once he left the room. This 6:34 makes the fact that it’s opened later more disconcerting. Movie emphasizes her locking things so it’s a sign of her letting her guard down to forget to lock it. Making her waking up to the door creeping even scarier. Excellent analysis

This movie was a WILD ride!! It actually felt like (3) movies in one because not only were there the (2) separate acts bringing in the 1st woman and then the 2nd dude but also the continual flashbacks on the Old Man and the 'Barbarian'
