Its also for UFO talk on the overnight shifts, sports score updates, playing sound clips from movies or songs, and pretty much anything other than actual emergency stuff ha. Ive heard some pretty funny things on guard. (I'm a controller at a center in the US)

I didn’t know about the animal voices, but the other day I heard a “Meow” and was startled. I wrote on Unicom chat did someone meowed? That started a bunch of jokes and spam on Unicom and a Sup came to scold me. Now it turns out that this was from the 121.5! I was monitoring it! 😀😀

Also, emergency locator transmitters transmit on 121.5, which might be picked up by an air crew and reported appropriately. Also used for "Hailing" - to ask another aircraft to perhaps go to another frequency, such as 123.45, for air-to-air comms.

Love to listen out the guard freq : 'blumax26, established ILS runway 22' all 20 other pilots in the sky ' guard, guard, guard ' screaming or someone imitating a cat on the freq : - ) the best ones are the civ planes interceptions by fighters on that freq.

Once on VATSIM, on 122.8 I have seen some guys flying with fighter jets and screaming on the frequency 😂 doing low-pass 10ft above our aircrafts before taking off on the same runway, at the same time and then following us until 5000ft 😂😂😂
