I grew up in south Chicago. I lost both of my brothers to gun violence. Lost my mom to drug overdose.
I was alone at 16. At 17 got a full ride scholarship for Cornell. Moved when I was 18 to ny and Haven't looked back since. Sometimes a community is in such chaos that there's no fixing it ..just gotta leave

Rappers send their kids to private schools, their lyrics send our kids to the morgue and penitentiary

She wanted to help her community and this is how they thanked her.

I literally cried watching this. She survived a gun shot early in her life to then be taken away from the same ignorance.

Everyone wants justice after the fact. Let's start a new trend, instead of no snitching, let's start telling everything we see. Let's stop having loyalty to this violent culture, music included

She stood up for her community, fought battles of her own. What a great honor to have her in this lifetime.

Call me a coward, but I would have ran after the first shooting in my head.. But I admire her tenacity and such bravery to not only stay in the same community, but to make major moves towards changing it! 💔🙏🏾 What a major loss..

Very interesting story, she been through and accomplished more in her short life than I have in my 45 years. Parents and family can't be anything but proud of her.

Very sad. Sometimes you got to give back to your community from a distance. People nowadays don't want no activist or people in the streets causing any type of havoc unless it's street havoc. Streets don't care for anyone. Never have. Never will. Got to move swiftly in these streets. Silence is golden. Rest in peace to the young lady. Sending family strength In this time of need.

There’s nothing politicians can do to solve a problem that is embedded in culture.
Until violence stops being celebrated, and people step up to raise better families with better morals, then this will continue to be a major issue.

You can’t save people that don’t wanna be saved. Be careful of the company you keep. R.I.P to this young lady and sending prayers up for everyone that loved her!💯❣️🌱🕊

Her death is a travesty to all. A bright light snuffed out way before her time. Chicago's crime has got to get under control. This should have never happened. My heart and prayers goes out to her family and community. God bless you all.

This is so tragic and unjust. Only 20 and taken from life so violently. Why? Sincere condolences to her family and friends.💜

👼🏿what is the answer? This is her question, Her challenge she stood tall and faced. She died for the same people who took her from the world.🖤 Will we ever matter to us again!?

Wow, LaNiyah sounds like an amazing young lady. My deepest condolences to the family and friends of LaNiyah Murphy. I pray that her murder is solved quickly, and that her family and the community will be able to get some semblance of comfort knowing that her murder(s) will be off the streets. Praying that someone in the community will step up!

She was my age. This is so tragic. Idk the whole story so if her shooter hasn't been caught, I hope they get caught eventually.
