Easily Fire Rolling Terry Cloth With The MORE Reactive Hardwood Ashes

On both Terry Cloth Fire Rolls today, I got the ignition in just 19 rolls. That's probably 3 times faster than all the other cloth fire rolls that I've done. I attribute it to the much more reactive hardwood ashes that I used today. Usually my ashes bottle is full of just whatever I had been burning in the hobo stove. That would mean I usually only ever have mostly Tulip Poplar and Pines' ashes. After seeing these results, I threw my whole bottle of ashes and have already started filling it back with these good hardwood ashes. Today's ashes happen to be of Northern Red Oak but you can use other Oaks, Beech and Hickory.

Thanks for the the cool tutorials Mr. West. I recently acquired a wood burning heater for my garage and just love lighting the fire in it without matches. My friends are blown away when I show them how to light a fire with only a couple pieces of wood and material with some ash on it.

Is that a golf course beyond the chain link fence? - Off your right shoulder as you face the fire table?

i wonder if mesquite would work as well as those oak ashes?

Awesome. I guess the potassium in the ashes combines with the cellulose in the fibers then friction heat speeds up the oxidation process until a chemical fire ignites!

What if you shred the edge of the tee shirt material ? Might be worth a try

Thanks for sharing this. Caught the charcoal vid first, what about wood dust? or more importantly the crumbling decay wood that can always be found in the woods? Also other fibres?

Maybe the cloth doesn't need to be as long as the opened up cotton.
