Novakon Torus Pro - Chips1

I took a piece of scrap and converted part of it to chips....just for the heck of it. I've spent all my time with the mill working on the mill itself. I decided it was close enough for now so lets just play. If I find something else out of whack, I'll take care of it then. This beginner has to start somewhere. Just did a couple of round pockets .200" deep in some 3/8" scrap pieces I had.

That is one nice machine.  I am jealous of the guys with the cnc gear.  Thanks for the video.

Great to see chips flying and straight in with some steel! As the others have suggested.. ditch that end mill, increase step over to maybe 30% and lower feed rate to control chipload. If you only use 5% or lower stepover and a not-so-sharp tool it will burr like crazy.

And for your next purchase, an end mill sharpener?

SWEET!! Making chips is a blast, and on a CNC even more so, but sometimes fraught w/ "Oh, (insert favorite expletive here)!!!" Just got my knee mill back in shape to run again and making chips for granddaughters birthday present. Machine is running, I'm sitting here watching YouTube of other guy's machine running LOL.

Nice to see chips off the Novakon. Did you check how round the hole ended up? Mill envy kicking in. It's on the someday list.

YAY!  Let the chips fly!  I'm so proud of you (sniff).  The control looked good - the end mill not so much.  I assume you chucked up an old one for the trials but those burrs were pretty bad.  I have never tried circular pockets, yet, but I wonder if the rotation effected the burr since it was climb milling.  Maybe Brad can chime in and say if that's normal.

On my 5C project I was cussing a lot and saying to myself, "I wish I had Mikes' mill!" so I have the envy going, too.

Were those peck cycles in the pocket code or was the mill jerking back and yelling "OWwww  HOT HOT HOT" in binary?
