I'm sure if you've ever been a part of any Linux forum you've come across people complaining about so called Arch Linux elitists but I don't think I've ever come across one of these people but what I have seen a ton of is people complaining about Arch Linux and complaining about anyone who wants to use and talk about it.

I agree with this sentiment and I've been baffled by the same thing. I've been a Debian user for over a decade. Arch is the only other distro that I've considered adopting for reasons: (a) the community has always been helpful and (b) Arch (and Gentoo) users understand their OS in depth. That's my kinda crowd. From what I've seen, those complaining about Arch or Arch users are usually revealing more about themselves than either the distro or the community.

"If they use KDE and you use GNOME, that's fine."

Actually, I'm pretty sure that neither of those people are fine. :D

I'm a Software Engineer -- _and_ a "computer Scientist" (whatever that means) but, honestly, Arch isn't all that complicated. Just read, digest and try it if you fancy it. Otherwise, leave it alone and stick with Debian (it's also perfectly good) -- or go full-on BSD. Personally, I fancy Gentoo :)

The main thing I like about arch is it doesn't touch my config that much. It won't change unless I make it change. One of the main reasons I moved from Windows was every time they did a feature update twice a year it would mess with lots of stuff and just break.

Haters gonna hate. Gentoo is also really trashed around. People should know better than listen to this hating mob.

I used a lot of distributions, and I say they don't matter because all of them suck, but you should use Arch and Gentoo for a while at least once, for the experience, and to know that you're not too much of a scrub to do it. I used Arch for many years, but I use too many programs, so a few things would break every now and then and it was annoying. The AUR isn't much of a selling point for me, because the more unusual things in there are unmaintained and broken anyway. Personally, Gentoo was more stable for me than Arch, but nowadays I just use a minimal installation of Debian because I already have the knowledge that comes from using those distros, and now I'm lazy and don't give a shit.

Many of the anti-Arch user memes seems to just be recycled anti-Linux user memes of ten years ago. In particular the RTFM one. Also, I'm always fairly nice about computer issues, even when dealing with godawful Macs, but I've never had someone jump down my throat on a forum more viciously than when I made the "btw I use Arch" joke.

Most problems I find with arch are solved with a simple search tbh

they definitely do exist. I agree that they are a very small minority, and it is over emphasized, but I've come across one or two of these mythic creatures before. I've seen threads in the arch forum and I've actually encountered one of these beasts in the subreddit before. I was lucky to live to tell this tale...

but in all seriousness, I do agree with you in general. keep up the good content

Using Arch on my two work computers for over a year. What I love about Arch is their documentation. I also have other machines, two using vanilla Debian with the 5.5 kernel and one laptop using Fedora 32. When it comes to documentation, Arch is far superior. Icing on the cake is the AUR. I also like my Debian and Fedora installs. All of them run great! Found your posting funny, it's so true. It's not that hard to figure things out, find work a around etc.

Most the people I encountered online using the 'btw...' line turned out to be Manjaro users.

The only times I came across 'btw..' is in adhoc system advice posts in forums where the poster was trying to help someone on another distro.

Any Arch user that ever tells me to RTFM, will get a FU from me. If they say RTM, then I will look at it.

I'm thinking of getting Arch just for the btw I use Arch

extra time?, people that have more free time? I don't understand those related to Arch, Void or Gentoo; one of the reasons I use them is because it takes less time to install; with Arch and Void I boot their live system and have them installed in 20m (less with Void), then I paste my preferred SW list and let is install in another 10m, I paste my old /etc and my ~/.config and I'm done. With Gentoo is even less invasive, because I can easily install it from other running distro so it doesn't interfere at all, it may take a whole day to compile my entire first install but who cares, I'm using my machine normally doing something else and the same thing: /etc, ~/.config and I'm done, no clicking away again and again into menus and configuring GUIs everywhere. And my Arch, Void and Gentoo installs last me for years, I bet I've "wasted" less installing Gentoo than installing other distros, I only reinstall my main Gentoo machine when I upgrade HW, which is not often, my current install have 5+ years, even if it took me a day to install that is less than an hour yearly "wasted" installing Gentoo. Of course, when you are distro hoping and constantly trying new sw it can be more of a problem, but I know what I like, I have my system as I like it, when you get that, those distros actually save time.

I don't know why people think that one distro is inferior or superior than the other. Linux distros do not compete with each other. They all serve different purposes - rolling release or long term. Try every distro out and see what works for you.

Based on the videos on YouTube, the Arch Linux "elite" users provide a multitude a helpful content for all levels of user. While I do not use Arch Linux, I find a lot of useful information about applications which I can use with my preferred distribution. Choice is one of the advantages and benefits of free/libre and open source software; I won't get into the subtle differences - RTFM ;-).

You hit the Nail on the head mate!... use what you like and don't shit on distributions that did not work for you, we are all Linux users, use what you want as long as you use Linux and don't shit on anyone..

I'm arch user but I have to accept Ubuntu was my first distro. I spent like 2 years for everything. Then I switched to arch because of its aur, yay and pacman. I'm still thankful to Ubuntu for making me to take baby step in Linux. Now I'm somewhat adolescent in Linux after 3 years use and I chose arch for more deeper understanding and addictive ease of use pacman and also for most op manual in universe the archwiki

By the way I use Arch, I like Pacman and yay for AUR. Also my Linux box is not very powerful so I mainly use tiling wms. Arch works amazingly great as a fully fledged but light system. On the Debian families side I like Linux Lite.
