Rick Alan Ross is the founder and the Executive Director of The Cult Education Institute (or CEI). He is a globally recognized expert on the inner workings of destructive cults, controversial groups as well as subversive movements. Rick is also the author of the book 'Cults Inside Out: How People Get In and Can Get Out'. He began his research for the book in 1982, as he began delving into the rising threat that controversial authoritarian groups and movements posed. Ross then later started a website with his archives in 1996, and the CEI now keeps this online archive of his material he collected on cults and controversial groups.

As such he has become a qualified and accepted expert witness, who has also testified in court proceedings all across the United States. This has also extended to the US Federal Court on numerous occasions. He has also frequently assisted both local and national US law enforcement, as well other governmental agencies in all their cult related cases. His reputation has also led to him becoming a paid consultant for CBS, CBC and Nippon of Japan television networks. He has also been retained as a technical consultant for both Miramax and Disney film studios.

Great discussion on a fascinating subject, thank you both. I'd love to see Rick back for another livestream sometime.

Rick Allen Ross gives a good description of cult members after they have been in a group, narcissistic with cluster B type characteristics. I think that this is often part of the cultic pseudo personality overlay "cloning" which is the result of indoctrination and trying to psychologically survive in these environments.

But here's something also to consider:

Many dangerous high control groups tend to be authoritarian in nature. The processes, tactics, and attitudes that they hold would naturally tend to be appealing to the authoritarian personality type (as researched by Adorno 70 years ago.)

The tactics and attitudes of an authoritarian dangerous high control group would already be immediately appealing to the authoritarian personality. It would make sense that they would be more likely to go along with and support the uninformed consent manipulations, the power and control structure at the expense of other things such as tolerance of diversity in thinking (which often result in things such as "the ends justify the means" types of behaviors and attitudes).

So, I think the authoritarian personality type would tend to be more vulnerable than others into being pulled into the manipulations without seeing them for what they are because they are already oriented towards that type of dynamic over others.

But once people are in an indoctrinated and acclimated to cult social psychological environment, they end up often having personality shift towards something more vulnerable narcissistic, insecure, perceptively self-absorbed, etc.

Ok last comment! Lol... Food for thought later! Have you ever heard of the Netflix cult documentary HOLY HELL? The director and ex member, Will Allen, would be such a wonderful person to have on your show ... The story is unbelievable and his doc is raw and eye opening ❤️👍❤️👍

Let me first say, great interview and dialogue 👍. Only half way through but am loving it :).
I do have a question though, maybe I didn't hear right idk - in the very beginning where Mr. Ross is discussing his video game influences and hand in some sort of video game that puts the gamer in a cult like situation of sort... Did I understand that correctly? Meaning he helped create something to expose anyone, mostly pubescent boys to play a game involving cult like gaming situations?

There’s nothing in psychology known as an addictive personality.

Are most contemporary cults Christian or bible based?

the contest url served two purposes...
one was to enter the contest by creating the account
the other was free bitcoin after a 200 dollar purchase.
sorry its that simple, and to conflate this with censorship is to assist google in censorship not to stand against it.

Doesn't that definition of a cult apply to Catholicism?
