The Nordic naming tradition makes its appearance in the Marvel movie Thor.
And Thor Odinson (Son of Odin, get it?) thinks Agent Coulson is named so because he is the Son of Coul!

And as a lot of people pointed out, Lady Sif does this again in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
