An important caveat to this concept is having the ability to discern between what is good and what is bad. What you might consider one of your bad songs, many could consider it one of your better ones. So it is important to be able to identify and determine the characteristics that lead to an objective “good”.

Thank you for your advice! It happened to me once to record a full draft and just forget about it. The next week i listened to it again and i was taken aback, it really stood out from my other drafts. I loved it. I could hear it with a fresh point of you since i forgot it and i think it's a really good tip! I recommend you guys to try it too at least once 😊 worth it

I really struggle with this concept.
I find the more songs I try to make, the more bogged down by what i should actually finish properly. There are just too many ideas backed up and nothing gets completed. Its an idea soup.
Furthermore, it makes me never finish anything because i have hundreds of ideas at various degrees of "done" and it rocks my confidence. In other words, it has the opposite effect of detaching from the music to me.

I've seen this opinion a lot over the past couple of years but I can't really get on board with it. I just don't enjoy churning out a song a day or week. It saps all my enjoyment out of the process. In stead I would rather practice my instrument, learn other people's songs and listen to new music. Don't get me wrong I'm not waiting around for inspiration but over time I collect ideas and when I feel I need a new song I will work on one of those ideas until I get a new song out of it. Sometimes it takes days, sometimes weeks. I have songs where the time between the initial idea and the final chords, lyrics and melody is measured in years.

Anyway, that's just how I do it. To each their own.

don't tell me what to do, i have a day job and i need sleep, i'm not a machine. i already wrote over 300 songs in my fucking life. i don't need more pressure by random yt dudes.
