Colombo High Court grants bail to Gnanasara Thera

The Colombo High Court ordered the release on bail of the General Secretary of the Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) organisation, Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thera, who was sentenced to simple imprisonment for insulting the religion of Islam.

The court made this order after hearing a revision petition filed by Gnanasara Thera, seeking his release on bail as he had filed an appeal against the sentence.

On January 9 this year, the Colombo Magistrate’s Court sentenced Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thera to nine months of simple imprisonment for insulting the religion of Islam.
