Just to note about the camera issue: There's a spare USB on the motherboard you can plug any camera into it and it'll automatically work. Klipper has native support for cameras. Just an FYI if you're wanting to add a camera, you can add virtually any webcam and it'll work right out of the box. 👍

Well done evaluation. I ordered an X-Max 3 in late May and should get it in a couple weeks. QIDI recently dropped the pre-order price to $999.00 with free shipping so, in my opinion, that makes it the best deal for a large volume corexy printer.
QIDI did some major design changes to their new line after an initial stumble but had the courage to stop sales until several issues were resolved. The x-axis steel rods are precision hollow hardened steel, which is a lighter and more expensive alternative to solid steel rods (as the Creality K1 series have). This pretty much reduces belt stretching (it looks like, maybe 9mm belts?) due to rapid inertia changes with high-speed printing, as well as reducing vibration. In essence, they added more metal to their larger printers--heavy but better vibration dampening.

Great video, short and on the point! I received my X-MAX 3 10 days ago and instantly put a USB webcam int the spare USB. Fluid instantly recognized the webcam. As you stated the print quality is excellent. I printed a lot of ABS and PC CF with excellent results. There are some smaller issues with the software that QIDI is working on. But thei are cosmetic and do not impact useability or print quality.

Just an FYI currently it's $999 from Qidi. The Qidi Tech X-Plus 3 is $699! Crazy good deals IMO! They look like some super solid printers now they have worked the kinks out of them!

I bought the Plus-3 and may buy the Max. for the size. The Qidi Printer has printed great right out of the box. By far one of the best printer we have bought to date. But we have had the firmware fail twice in the middle of two long 31 hr. prints and this is very problematic because we print battery boxes which take a long time. When they fail we can not recover or restart the print. Is this something others are seeing or is this a problem that just we are experiencing? Qidi helped updated the firmware quickly the first time in 12/23. Only a few weeks ago.

I wonder ...
Could you do a compare between this Max-3 and Bambu Lab P1S ??? I am self torn between, which of them I should go with.
Furthermore, I really like that big bed on Max-3, but I also can see the benefit of AMS. (I don't think I will use multicolor print.)
My main goal for usage will be parts that make my life a little easier, and make some helpful things for my wife also.

Again, thank you for super great video! You are doing great!

thanks for this video, great first impression of the printer. I also ordered the X-Max 3 in May and hope to have it delivered soon. I print a lot of TPU (88A), I am particularly interested in the shore hardness of the tpu you use. Qidi only specifies a printable shore hardness of 95A, the one you use seems softer to me. I hope the extruder can handle my TPU too 😉

So a heads up on carbon filtration, it definitely does a great job filtering, just not indefinitely. Meaning that the filter will get saturated and no longer absorb VOCs.

In the industrial world, carbon beds are used for VOC abatement where the VOCs are adsorbed, and later on when the beds are saturated, "cooked" off with live steam, and the fumes from that are then incinerated. This ends up running the incinerator far less frequently, as well as using the VOCs themselves as part of the fuel source. Very efficient, and very dangerous and unforgiving.

Not likely to see that anytime soon in the home market.

Fun fact #1: this is the coordinates for the old carbon bed VOC system at the old Saturn plant: 35.740067, -86.960255 It's no longer in operation as the plant now has a new Paint shop. And it's big, really big. :)

Fun fact #2: While the Qidi may be large, it will still (barely) fit on the build plate of my HevORT (595 x 595 x 600+). If I get ambitious I'll place my new Qidi when it gets here in my HevORT and get a video of it. :)

There are some things I like, but no camera is not one of them, build volume is nice but I print things that fit my Bambu P1S just fine. Which I have had some issues with and I do worry about maintenance. The enclosed printer is great but you have to do more disassembly and access can be an issue. 1099.00 seems a bit high since the P1s is 699 and has a camera. In the end I am glad there is another choice. Also you didn't cover support for the device, like warranty?? if you had a problem is there a path to return or repair? That is an issue I had with my Bambu. I had issues, and they just send you tech notes and ask you to trouble shoot and repair your machine, and usually it is a assembly issue, which is not expected for a brand new device. Thanks for the info.

Great review, thanks. I appreciate your practical insights into making functional parts, in particular. I am put off the Bambu products - despite their undeniably polished user experience - due to the inability to print without cloud, and prefer Qidi's fully open source software approach. I was about to order a Voron 2.4r2 kit - 300mm version - but this is fantastic value and will do everything I need for less money.

It looks really interesting, you can print huge things at a crazy speed with very good quality!
Compared to Bambu printing I can notice at least 3 more defects and a slight salmon skin, the other thing that then scares me is the service and spare parts retrieval, in this direction Bambu seems to work well.

its actually 325 x 325 build size.
Ive had my og xmax for 2 years and its been awesome... the xmax 3 also uses a version of prusa slicer which has the fluid platform meaning you can connect via your phone.
they made a version with carbon fibre but people hated it.... they put steel back in which is the right call.... steel needs hardly any maintenance, and will last longer.
no qidi printer has a moving bed btw.
Also qidi filament is fantastic, runs perfectly on rhis machine.
NEVER use default settings.... worse thing you can do.
you can only really print high speed on filament thats made for it.
like qidi tech pla rapido.
but you can mess with settings and get decent prints with everything

Is this a good printer for a small farm (3-5 printers) to crank out 500-1000 small (2-6 grams/unit) per month for a supply agreement without overloading the (3-5 printers)?

I am very impressed with the fast TPU prints as I usually have to slow down the TPU prints I make, QIDI took this printer off the market to fix some issues with the heated chamber causing heatcreep, I have heard that this issue has been addressed, kudos to QIDI! if it had been Creality they would have probably just left it to the community to fix!

I'm curious about firmware. If it is running klipper and has fluid access, are you able to change config file? Can you do things like add ABL/auto purge that only does probing to the size of the object instead of the whole bed? This is easy to do with stock klipper on any machine. Im hoping you can still manage macros and change config for things like this. Thanks!!

So is this machine okay for just starting out as a hobby printer with potential to make items to sell? I'd rather buy a great model upfront than a model that after a few months, I'll want something better. Or should I get a Creality or other machine. I definitely want an enclosed machine for ABS. Thank you.

Great video. Very helpful. Since you use yours for business (which is what I am intending to use mine for), I would be interested in a longer-term (6 month?) review to see how things are holding up and if you have experienced any further issues. I am really taking a hard look at this machine.

1 have one question. You stated that the quidi is faster than the bambulab x times. Then you said that you can have a good enough print from 200mm to 250mm. Now the question, how it is possible that the qidi print faster at 250 when I always print with my bambulab at 300mm with great quality? Can you explain the physics behind it? Thanks
Also cam you test print PA12 cf for reference? That's make a 2 questions post. Sorry! 😂
