This video will teach you how to fix your shaky, nausea-inducing footage with the built-in stabilization feature.

And! We’re going to do it using the free version of Davinci Resolve.

First Tip should maybe be: Don't shoot footage that is SO super wiggly and just relay on the algorithm to try to fix stuff in post 😅

"Don't shoot footage that is SO super wiggly" — brillian from someone who never tried.
As well "less shaky video == better software stabilization", is not always true. but for timelapse more opposite, while algoritms have hard time to fix minimum And resolve suck with walking stabilization, as well as any other software if movement is slow.

You going to end up with a lot of artifacts and problems, depending on how bad the rolling shutter effect was in your camera and how bad the movement. You also might end up with weird sheer and tear even if some footage where it tires to lock on something and prioritize that at the expense of something else in the frame. Basically post stabilization is like post slow motion effects. It heavily depends on the source footage. I've tried all the tools on the market and they all fail sooner or later if you push them, so its best to know the limitations of each tool, program and settings as well as shooting with the post stabilization in mind. There is no magic bullet.

I think this side of resolve I hope is improved in 19, translation seems to be always the best . We need something better as I think this is a weak link in resolve

Hi Timothy, you should continue doing tutorials for DAVINCI RESOLVE, I really like the way you teach, you sound very friendly and understandable, on other channels there some YOUTUBERS who do not have a talent teaching like that, and the sound of your voice draws attention to learning, thank you so much! - I subscribed today!

SO helpful! Thank you! Switching over from Premiere to DaVinci and it’s quite the learning curve lol. This was clutch!

I never use Perspective or similarity on super shaky footage. Those two only works on extremly calm videos.

i found premieres/after effects subspace warp is the much more capable and versatile algorithm for most situations, it also takes about 20 times longer usually, but since actually editing something in adobe products is and absolute terrible slow and crash laden mess. you stabilize that in premiere and then export losless to a real editing software like davinci. in some cases you can even add davincis stabilizer to further stabilize for slight improvements.

Thank you. This helped me learn Davinci so much easier!

Wouldn't it look better if before stabilization you reduce the clip speed to say 80%? Or play with % depending on the clip.

can you maybe tell me how to remove shaking and shifting while my phone is compltely still ?
i have a brand new 649 euro phone and everything around my face is constantly shaking and shifting while i record in 1080p 60fps and even though the lighting condition is very good.

OK have you ever tried to follow a Model Airplane and keep it (if going Left to right) in the right side of the screen? You know with moving objects you provide space in front to see where they are going. But the raw footage has the Model Plane all over the screen.

Thank you. I am working on a project and I have several moving pre existing dead pixels due to stabilization. How should I process the footage to clean dead pixels and stabilize the footage?

That's a massive improvement! Thank you for making this video - been struggling with my R10' poor stabilization and this will make a massive difference!
