I already forgot you mentioned toddler and thought this was a normal retail reaction. I didn’t question it either.

I love this age! Last week my granddaughter asked my husband why he had white hair. He said, “Because I’m old”. She replied, “Oh, well I’m new”!!

I remember my daughter (toddler at the time) flipping out because I tea partied "wrong". I am not sure to this day (she's 15 now) what I did wrong but I did something wrong. Like really wrong. Huge emotions. After helping her deal with those huge emotions and putting her down for a nap I went to the shower and bawled my eyes out feeling like "if I can't even tea party correctly how the f am I going to do the important stuff right". Being a parent is the toughest job on earth.

I always lose at pretend play.
A few days ago mr penguin was stuck on the shelf. I naively took the tow helicopter to save him, before my child informed me that obviously that helicopter cant fly. Instead the grizzly bear flew up to the shelf to save mr penguin.

This is TOO relatable- I’m a full-time Nanny (& single Mom)… our version of this game always involves a kitchen or restaurant, & unfortunately they’re always out of like the first 15 foods or meals I guess to try & order as the customer too. Maybe August’s Camping Store is opening a Restaurant in my town because this seems very familiar. 😂😂😂

My toddlers frequently lick me and when I tell them to stop because that’s gross they inform me that I am, in fact, an ice cream cone.

As an ex childcare worker this made me laugh, toddler conversations are the BEST. Just abandon reality and go with it for pure fun ❤️

Little kids are the most interesting ppl to witness and the most frustrating ppl to talk to because WHERE IS THIS CONVERSATION GOINGG?

My dad purposefully messes with kids when playing pretend. If he's the customer, he "forgot his wallet out in the car", or demands to buy a floofenfarter. In Floortime (the intervention method based on Stanley Greenspan's DIR model of development) it's called "constructive obstruction." My dad is just a retired drywall finisher, so he just knew that it was a way to push kids to expand their play a little bit. Kids think it's hilarious.

Can you tell that I adore my dad? I'm a pediatrician and Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health (IECMH) professional, and I love that there are so many things that IECMH professionals have fancy terms for that were just "dorking around and playing with my dad" in my vernacular when I was growing up.

I always haggled with my kids during store time. A toddler defending the price of a tsum tsum is hilarious.

Bluey really glamorizes kids’ pretends.

THIS is why I love working with kids! They are so funny and aren’t even trying. Their imaginations are just wild!

it's cool when kids use playtime to practice setting boundaries for themselves. maybe I should use this practice style myself!
