I had to make one extra change to this. Using the anniversary filter was giving me everyone who had a birthday yesterday. I suspect this was due to a difference between the time zone of my server and the the time zone I had set in Mautic. My simple fix was to make the filter anniversary+1days to produce a segment of everyone with a birthday today.

Potential issue. They will stay in the birthday segment for 24hrs before the date change will take them out of the segment. That means that if they are removed from the campaign and the campaign is step to allow them to restart, every time the cron runs they will be added back to the campaign and they will get another happy birthday email. That could end up being lot of birthday emails in 24 hrs! A quick fix is to set a wait of 24hrs in the campaign before removing them.
