Hello and welcome to my channel where we explore chunks of Scottish history every week.

Welcome to Dundee, 4th largest city in Scotland. It is not the only a city of 3 J - Jute, Jam and Journalism, but also a beautiful place full of interesting history.
Dundee grew up as a small port in the 11th century. Its name may be derived from the words Dun Daigh (Dun meant fort). Medieval Dundee was, of course, a busy port. Large quantities of wine were imported from France and Spain. The main exports were hides and wool. However, disaster struck Dundee in 1548 when it was partly burned by the English. Dundee soon recovered. In 1592 a wall was built around Dundee to protect it from attack.

As a walk around Dundee city centre, you can enjoy the lovely atmosphere, and a vast amount of street art or you can simply visit Macmanus art gallery and museum. Gothic revival style building. Entrance is Free and donations are appreciated.
HMS Unicorn is a surviving sailing frigate from 1824, built shortly after the Napoleonic wars, and sailed only once. This frigate is now a well-preserved Museum, add it to your list, it is beautiful.

My Trips are usually 1-day trips that you can enjoy with me. But Dundee has so much to offer. I spent there just a short 6 hours wandering around. And if you want to catch everything possible, rent a bike. It's Affordable and they are almost everywhere here.

Take a strategic trip to the ‘strong point on the Tay’, where Broughty Castle was built to help defend the nation against a gathering English navy. Broughty Castle was erected in 1490. It was taken without a shot fired by the English in 1547, and reclaimed by the Scots two and a half years later. The castle fell back into English hands in 1651. In 1860 the threat of French invasion prompted Broughty’s conversion from a ruin to a modern artillery defence. The castle was further altered in response to the German threat in the two world wars. Now Castle is turned into a beautiful museum. And guess what… The entrance is FREE.

V&A Galery is a place that presents the brilliance of Scottish Creativity. A beautiful place of inspiration, Discovery& learning.

Right behind the gallery, you can find RSS discovery. Beautiful steamship built for Antarctic research. The boat has been launched in 1901. She was the last traditional three-masted ship Built in Dundee. There are many credits to RSS discovery, like recording valuable data about the ocean, or the first scientific investigation into whale populations.

I hope you really enjoyed this video. and if I earn your subscription, or like today, thank you.
